Thyroids, Endocrinologist, Symtoms?

June 10th (approx), while we were on vacation in Europe I was experiencing flu/cold-like aches all over my body. Headaches, restless nights, joint-pains, strange pains on both sides of my neck, just below my ears and straight down to the front of my neck. Pain-killers like Advile really helped.

  1. Aug25, I feel better with no pains and regain some of my weight, 184lbs. The interesting thing about all this is that I had been experiencing similar symptoms to the Thyroids sickness but not all. “CONFUSED” Any ideas!!!
  2. Go see an endocrinologist. Thyroid can fluctuate and believe me... hypothyroid is just as bad as hyper. I have had both. I have Graves disease and I was EXTREMELY hyper when diagnosed (I had 5X the normal levels of thyroid hormone and my resting heart rate with betablockers was 140bpm). I am now hypothyroid and am trying to manage my disease as best as possible. I got myself the best endocrynologist money could buy and now my disease is under control. You need to monitor your thyroid levels often.

I suggest you read "Could it be my thyroid?" by Dr Sheldon Rubenfeld. He is THE authority on thyroid disease and his book covers all thyroid related ailments.

    Good luck!
  3. I dont really know what to tell you but my sis has gone thru similar things. she has had a fever of unknown orgin for 3 yrs. the first thing they did was check her thyroid and nothing then after 3 yrs they checked it again as a last resort before going to bone marrow biopsy and she has nodules on the thyroid (you might have that checked) which makes her lose her voice when she is tired. literally she can not talk and also thats when her fever goes up. so you need to go and you will need to get that checked every year. the body is funny and doctors dont know everything.. good luck to you and I hope you get all better soon
  4. 2nd visit July 17th I insisted on a blood test as my health in general was deteriorating at a fast pace. From 194Ib I went down to 174lbs. Headaches, fever, palpitation, aches all over my body, could not sleep at night unless I would take (IBUPROFEN) one pill a day would be ok. I lost all my strength, and all I wanted to do was sleep and rest. The pain on one side of my neck had gone but my R/H side had gotten worse, I could not swallow properly either. Days later my blood test results indicated that I had an Over-active Thyroid. My doctor suggested the following: June 26th-Aug3rd. X-ray/neck, Heart Sonogram, Thyroid Sonogram, Thyroid Uptake Scan. Results: X-ray/neck no problem, Heart Sonogram no problem, Thyroid Sonogram no problem, Thyroid Uptake Scan no problem. By Aug5th my body had recover considerably for the better other than, that I could still not swallow properly and still at 174lbs, though, was eating well.
  5. I might want to add that my Cholesterol went down too, from 225 last year to 130 last week. I feel great now and wish you all guys good luck too and thanks for replying. Will keep intouch with any progress.
  6. I took the medication for two days and that was it, threw them down the toilet.
  7. Many people have thyroid problems, but if you are still having symptoms get checked for Lyme's disease. That's what some of the symptoms sound like to me. Could be that you have both. Also, see another doctor for a second opinion, perhaps a holistic doctor.
  8. Aug15th I had another blood test as recommended by my doctor. Results: Under-Active Thyroids. At this point my body is back to “normal” with no pains or aches. Now he wants me to take “SYMTOMS” and see an Endocrinologist.
  9. Back in the USA June 28th my doctor indicated that it was arthritis and prescribed me (ETODOLAC) some kind of arthritis pain killer (it nearly killed me alright, rather than the pain).
  10. Go see the endocrinologist. There are other things that could be going on. Did they look for Rheumatoid Arthritis? Good luck.
