  1. I have been on Thyroxine for many years, and I have never heard of that before. I have never been told to avoid any foods or drinks. I eat and drink sensibly.
    Goog luck.
  2. You should take your medication with just water on an empty stomach. Food interferes with its absorption. Never heard of orange juice being particularly bad. I know calcium and iron supplements are bad and should not be taken within 4 hours of your thyroid medication.
  3. I take thyroxine & I drink orange juice without a problem; & I don't know of anything that you can't eat. relax and enjoy life !!!

  5. Ditto - I have recently been diagnosed with it too and am on thyroxine. It might help to look at the questions I have recently asked abt it as I got some really good answers that have been helpful. Also I can recommend a book - actually if you want to email me we can chat further and I could send the book for you to read. Hope this helps!

  6. Calcium fortified orange juice can interfere with absorption of the medicine. Wait a couple of hours after taking the medicine before drinking OJ or anything containing lots of calcium
  7. I know grapefruit juice can reduce the bodies ability to absorb certain medications due to an enzyme found in the juice. It stops the intestines from absorbing vital parts of the medication thus reducing the blood plasma concentration. Some doctors feel that certain types of orange juice also have this enzyme. There hasn't been a lot of medical proof yet but it is being studied. As it stands right now there are no contraindications involving orange juice and thyroxine.
  8. been taking thyroxin for years and never heard that one before!!! XXX
