  2. You may have a overactive thyroid rather than an underactive one. Your thyroid gland (located at the base of you neck) will enlarge. You may feel hyper at some times and grouchy all the time (I described it as having PMS every day). THere is no weight gain (rather you start losing weight). Your hair and nails are brittle.

You are at the age where a thyroid condition will strike. Get a referral to an endocrinologist or have your doctor do a blood test for it. There's medication for both under and over active thyroids (hypo and hyper thyroid)
  3. My partner has an underactive thyroid, and leads a normal life.Get the proper medication and you will be fine.

  6. Ask your doctor for a referal to an endocrinologist. Hypothyroid generally includes not only an enlarged neck (mine is 18"), but also thinning hair, thin and brittle fingernails, dry, flaky skin, bulging eyes and weight gain, even on a low calorie diet, and chronic exhaustion. If you are having the neck thing, but no other signs, you may have a different challenge. Have your blood oxygen taken, too. Not enough oxygen getting through to your bloodstream will make you tired.
