Does my sore throat have anything to do with my underactive thyroid?

my throat has been very sore for the last 3 years and I had a blood test not long ago and it said that I had an underactive thyriod. so I am taking the tablets for it but the doctor says I shouldnt have a sore throat because of it ?

1. I think they are more or less connected somehow. I don't know how though. try stretching it backwards daily for awhile. work on good form. eventually you want a nice, pretty, yoga backbend going on. that may or may not help.
   
   an interesting guess might be that it is allergies causing drainage down your throat causing irritation. perhaps you can find a way to reduce allergens.
   
   you getting your vitamins and all that?
2. The sore throat shouldn't be connected. Have you been checked for GERD? Three years sounds like a chronic condition and you should have it looked into. GERD can cause swelling in the esophagus, which could feel like a sore throat (after all, the throat and esophagus are about an inch or two apart). If it is GERD, it's a funny little thing ... GERD and hypothyroidism go hand in hand in many, many people, moreso than the overall population, which is making doctors a mite bit suspicious. Who knows? Maybe they ARE related? But for now, see if you can get a doc to problem solve for the sore throat -- don't ignore it. Unchecked GERD for instance can lead to a disease which leads to cancer.

4. I have hypothyroidism and so does my mom and grandma. I have never heard of a sore throat being related to the problem. I do have sinus & allergy problems that causes a sore thoart. I go to WebMD and look up a lot of stuff. That is where I learned a lot about hypothyroidism it does affect a lot of things. I was really surprised what all it does affect. Good Luck don't let it get out of hand it can cause a lot of problems! I found out the hard way!!!!
