Pregnant with Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and have hypo-thyroidism (Hashimotos disease) and have had it since I was 12 years old.

  1. I don't know, as this is my first baby...I too am hypothyroid, have been since the age of 15.
I was really excited at first because up until month#7 of pregnancy, I really didn't gain a lot of weight, and I was thinking I wouldn't have too bad of a time losing weight afterwards if I continued at that rate!
WRONG! LOL, then I developed gestational diabetes, and now seems like such a struggle to make sure I eat enough for me and baby, but everything I eat seems to make me gain weight no matter what it is. I have now gained 43 pounds at 36 weeks...it is depressing.
But, I plan on just doing what I can to get in shape afterwards, once I am up and feeling like myself again. Also, doc strictly advised to monitor my TSH results carefully for a couple of months after delivery, as pregnancy throws thyroid levels into such turmoil anyway, he wanted to make sure they were good and stable afterwards to help with getting back to normal. Doc said that was the most important thing for the weight loss afterwards was making sure to keep thyroid levels stable, not letting them fluctuate a bunch without keeping a close eye on them.
    Good luck to you!
  2. thanks! :)
  3. I was 30 when I found out I had hypothyroidism and the doctor said that might have been why I had difficulty in losing the post baby weight I gained however all 4 of my children were healthy and of average weight. If I were you I would consult my doctor with my concerns about losing the baby weight
  4. Has anyone else gotten pregnant with hypo-thyroid (underactive) thyroid and lost the baby weight soon afterwards?
  5. Therefore the weight thing is a constant battle.
