- Which type of thyroid problem....I am assuming it is under active as you have a weight problem,if so yes taking the meds should help, however make sure you talk to your doctor about the amount of exersise you do, as some thyroid meds can change your blood pressure and have other side effects.
- I am a physician.
- I can't say 100% that it will but it should help. The thyroid helps regulate your metabolism so if you take the medication your metabolism should become higher therefore help your body burn claories at a faster rate.
- If your thyroid is underactive, then taking thyroid hormone to bring you back to a normal level can definitely help you to loose weight (thyroid hormone is one of the things that determine basic metabolic rate). If your doctor tells you that you need thyroxine (synthroid, levoxyl, etc.) then take it, you will not only find it easier to loose weight, but likely feel more energetic as well.
- Thyroid medication doesn't act like a diet pill, it wont make you lose weight quickly, but it should make it possible for you to lose weight more easily than you have been if you keep the excercise and good diet going. Just be sure to keep taking it everyday as instructed and have your thyroid checked as often as your doctor says too.
- it all depends what kind of thyroid disorder you have and which thyroid medication you will take. it takes sometimes several month to get adjusted to the right medication. I started out on 125mg and now I am on 112mg.
Yes, it's possible that you will loose some weight -BUT DO NOT COUNT ON IT! It might take a while for your body.
I suggest to google your thyroid disease and read as much as possible about it and also talk to your doctor. If I were you I also would see a specialist (endocrinologist).
I had my thyroid removed a couple of years ago because I had hashimoto's and a small benign tumor.
- You have hypothyroidism and yes, your weight will regulate much better after you've been on the corrrect dosage for thyroid replacement. It won't be overnight, but within a few months you'll see gradual changes, including better metabolism. Other changes will also include less fatigue, less hair loss, less chance for depression and more general energy. You may also feel that you're not as "cold" as you used to be due to your body's metabolic regulation. You'll also find that your ovulation will become regulated, so that if you'd been trying to conceive, after being on your meds for a while, you'll be more likely to succeed in this area too.
- Hypothyroidism can cause weight fluctuation, specifically weight gain. It is also associated with fatigue, depression, hair changes, along with other nonspecific symptoms. However, there are other reasons that can prevent intentional weight loss. How long have you been trying to lose weight? What is your diet like?
Whether or not thyroid medication will help you lose wt, you should definitely follow up with your physician.
- I am a female age 31 weigh 171 pounds. I take thyroid meds (3 years now) and have only lost 3 pounds, the same 3 I loose them, they find me on and on........
But I am also a type 1 diabetic and take insulin so that could be the problem for me. I do know many people though that have lost many pounds once their thyroid was under control. Good luck!!
- yeah I've been there. all of a sudden I just ballooned up to 20 pounds heavier than my normal weight. then I got on meds and the pounds just fell off, it was great.
