my partner has just had radio iodine treatment for an over active thyroid, we have two children (1 and 6), he is not allowed to see the kids for three weeks, I was just wondering if anyone has had this treatment and if so how long did you have to stay away from people and young children for ?

1. My father-in-law had this done and he was told that he could not hold the kids next to his neck for 3-4 weeks, he could still be around them. I would clarify this with your doctor.
2. yes you can still see people but with children you are not allwoed close contact with them (reason for moving out)!

3. My friend had this done and she saw her kid the next day !!!!
4. As long as it takes the radioactive iodine to clear the system...3 - 4 weeks! He should drink plenty during this time to help it on its way! ...;
5. I have to have this done soon - gulp! I thought it was only a week to be away from kids? Did your partner have to stay in hospital or was it done as an out patients? I have heard that the more water you drink the quicker its out of your system as you expell the radiation by sweat and tears and urine.
6. he was only in hospital for about 2-3 hours. I know we have to follow the advice but it seems different people have different time limits, and this was justa question out of curiousity, not because I dont know how long or because we are gooing to change, if their are any other details anyone would like to add please feel free thankyou
