What would cause a long haired pure breed dog have a one puppy with short hair? would it becaused by some kind
of health problem? such as genetics, or thyroids, is something to worry about? is there any thing you can do to make the hair grow?

- It sounds like she did a no no with a short haired dog.
- genes. its all in the genes. what kind of dog is it? well the dog has a dominant gene for long hair but theres still that resessive gene for short hair. so in some cases the resessive can take part. thats like saying why does a red head mother give birth to a blonde daughter. its all in the genes of one of the parents. one of the parents has a short hair gene.
- most pups are not just born with long hair,it has to grow,an one reason for only one pup is breed to soon after she just had a litter,to you or to old,in some cases if they only hooked up once that could be the reason
- Well it depends if the mother dog had done it with a differnt bread. Like the genes put together might have made its hair grow long.
- It depends on who the other dog was.
- What breed do you have? Was the sire a long coat? As far as I know, LC is recessive in all dog breeds. If there are any that it is not recessive in, I haven't heard of it. For a dog to produce LC pups, it must either be a LC or carry for it. The mate must also either be one or carry for it. If both parents are LCs, all of the pups will be LCs. If one is a LC and one a carrier, some of the pups can be short coated. If both are carriers then some of the pups may be LCs and some will be short coated. If even one of the parents does not carry the LC gene then none of the pups will be LCs. Hopefully this makes sense to you.
