Sick!!!Does this sound right?
I have had a stuffy nose, awful cough and low fever for about 3 days. I went to the hospital last night because I felt so bad. My upper back hurt, my chest hurt, and I started to get this purplish rash on my lower lip. They did blood work, chest x-ray and chest cat-scan. They told me the only thing they found was nodules on my thyroid. They didn't address the isuue of the rash on my lip. Is this something I should worry about. They said the back pain was from coughing. I think about meningitis when I see a purple rash. I can touch my chin to my chest, but it causes pain in my upper back. do you think that's from the coughing. They prescribed Z-pack and another prescription for inflammation. They said the chest pain and bak pain are a muscle thing.

- did they say what your blood work results showed?
I cant say what the rash is from. Do you have a family physician ?
I would make an apt and have him or her explain your blood work and address your other concerns.
If you fear meningitis you should not wait and there are specific tests that prove or dis prove this illness.
It can be missed in an er setting so its worth another opinion.
Good luck I hope you feel better.
- I work in trauma icu
- Im a nurse. What caught my attention was when you said you have a low grade temp.A fever of any degree usually means infection somewhere.I'd make an appointment with another doc if I were you.As far as the rash to your lower lips goes, has it been really windy where you live? May be a wind rash.If you've been coughing alot, that could explain the chest and back pain.Good luck and hope you feel better soon :)
- No clue, but I just wanted to say get well soon!!!
- the bloodwork the er did would have told the dr whether or not you had meningitis and if you did-the hospital would have reacted quickly in treating it. if it was bacterial-you would have been put a special isolation room (b/c it's spread through droplets in the air) and you would have been admitted to the hospital.
coughing continously can cause muscle in all sorts of places to hurt!! the medication they gave you for inflammation should help with this.
the z-pack will kick out what's left of the infection (I'm assuming it was upper respiratory) and you should start to feel better within 2-3 days.
the rash could be from coughing so much-you could have burst some blood vessels. I wouldn't worry about this. the dr would have noticed it right away if it was something to be concerned about
hope you feel better soon
