What to do about cat constantly crying?

All she does is cry. She eats OK. She is 18 yrs old. I took her to the vet and he has her on some antibiotics for a sore in her mouth and thyroid pills. She drools excessivly too. But it's the constant crying that gets to us all...any help?

  1. Did the cat do this before the medication? I think that it is her way of communicating. Maybe she just needs to be held for a minute and strOKed then put down. When my cat does this I will talk to her and pet her and then she is ok for a while. The sore in the mouth is like a tooth ache and we all know how uncomfortable that can be.
  2. 18 is a very long time for a cat to live. She may be in pain. Ask the vet about her constant crying. If it's not a real howl of a cry she may just be trying to talk to you. Thyroid pills can cause drooling.
  3. eliminate the reason
  4. Do the same as if your wife if crying all the time: give her a good beating and she 'll learn her lesson!
  5. Your vet is probably the best person to help you assess your cat's quality of life; prospects for improvement or decline.

It could be pain, fear, loneliness, or boredom.

Gentle play and cuddles are what I've found work best.

We've also found it helpful to have a designated kitty room for when our cats are on the verge of driving us crazy. We close the door and walk away. They're always happy to see us when we let them back out and generally much better behaved.
  6. Perhaps she's in pain. You must be taking good care of her since she's 18; what did the vet say? What caused the sore in her mouth? Has she had a thorough exam with blood tests? At her age a blood workup is important once a year. She may have arthritis if she seems like it's hard for her to jump or get around. Are her teeth clean? Is she drinking enough water? If she checks out ok at the vet, she just may need lots more love and attention now cuz of her age, especially if she's the only cat you have. How are her eyes? If her sight is going bad, she may be scared also. She's definitly trying to tell you something, poor little girl.
