Sea kelp? thyroid issues please help?

I have been to the doctor with the feeling that my heart was going to stop. After a ton of blood , heart and other tests they've determined that im fine. I just have sum anxiety. My doc then gave me lexapro and after 2 pills I threw them away(id rather deal with the anxiety than the side affects). My question is, can a thyroid issues cause anxiety/depression. I used to take 2 sea kelp iodine pills a night(1 before my work out and 1 after) im thinking this was too much or maybe too little. I’ve stopped taking them for about 2 months now and that’s exactly when the symptoms began

  1. Sea kelp contains iodine which can have an effect of your thyroid. If anything taking the kelp would make your thyroid overactive. Symptoms of being overactive would be fast heart rate, weight loss, sweating, headache, anxiety, and diarrhea.

Depression would be a symptom of a slow thyroid. The only way to find out if the sea kelp has effected your thyroid is to gt a thyroid of TSH, Free T4, and Free T3. Make sure it's a morning test.
  2. should I begin taking the sea kelp again?
  3. Yes I think you are onto something, I used to take it but ended up stopping. Did you mention this to your Dr? If you were off them for a period of time and he rang blood tests and your thyroid was within normal range then I would say it was them and you dont need them and things should settle, I would also call the DR with this information if you didnt mention it when you were in the surgery.
  4. The sea kelp is very good for your thyroid! And your body has to have Iodine! Its not one of those things you can just do without and be okay! Sea Kelp does not make your thyroid overactive. Alot of doctors people involved with the FDA don't want people taking it! Because scientists know that the sea contains things which are the building blocks of life! Everything began in the sea! Thus the sea has things which are very beneficial for life. I have also had thyroid problems and now there is not a day that goes by that I do not take the sea kelp! I believe in Science, but I also believe in God! And the herbs where created for our benefit!
  5. Yes, Yes, Yes! I had the exact same thing! I started out with panic attacks and thought my heart was going into overdrive then failure. Then the doctor wanted to put me on Anti-depressants. After about a year of dealing with that, I got off the anti-D's and started feeling like I had a lump in my throat. I had blood work, x-rays, and an ulta-sound done and it turns out that I have a thyroid disease called Hashimotos Disease, and now my doctor has said that it very well could have been all connected. Yes, the thyroid function can play a part in the heart.
