Can Sea kelp cause you to have a overactibe thyroid if taken in excessive amounts?

my freind takes 5-8 sea kelp tablets a day and im worried! would this excessive amount cause him to have an overactive thryoid, he dosnt even have a underactive thyroid so I do not know why he takes them

  1. It may in some people . I think that it''s good for under active thyroid. But it has minerals too.
  2. Yes. Taking kelp at all, especially this much kelp, is such a bad idea. An endocrinologist will always ask you if you have been taking kelp when he is looking for the cause of a thyroid problem.
  3. Yep! It's loaded with Iodine which is what makes the thyroid function. If he messes up his thyroid permanently he will really mess up his whole body.
