I am hypothyroid and overweight?
I used to take 50 mcg (.05 mg) of levothyroxine. I was not losing weight but it was stable. when my son got 6 months old I started to exercise and control diet. during this time my thyroid went down and doctor prescibed me 35mcg(.035 mg) and since then I have gained 10 lbs more. Initially I wantd to lose 40 lbs now its gone to 50lbs. I am soooo depressed.

- It sounds like your thyroid levels have fluctuated again and may have risen. See your doc. Sounds to me like you may just need an increase in medication.
My aunt has hypothyroidism and it is almost impossible for her to lose weight. I commend you for your efforts for not only trying to lose weight but for also for effectively handling a disorder that, no doubt, can be overwhelming to deal with at times.
- You should find out the test results to see why the doctor lowered your dose. Being hypothyroid myself, I've learned you need to be involved in your care. This means getting copies of your blood tests and knowing what the numbers mean. Also, when you test, it must be done first thing in the morning or you could get undermedicated. Knowledge is power. I will put some links below for you to read up on Hypothyroidism and I'll provide a link to a group where people who are hypothyroid post on a message board about exercise, diet, etc while hypothyroid.
BTW, on T4 your morning TSH should be around 1.0. Higher than 1.0 and you will have difficulty losing weight and might even gain weight.
If you suffer from depression, its possible that you need both T4 and T3 like in Armour or Thyrolar.
- please help and try not to be rude
