- Mables,
In Hashimoto's Thyroiditis your body actually begins to attack your thyroid gland so it is unable to produce thyroid hormone (also called T3 & T4). TSH is made by the pituitary gland & it's job is to tell the thyroid to make more T3/T4 when the amount in your body is too low.
So right now your doctor is trying to give you a high enough dose of levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) that your TSH will drop into a normal range. So over the next few months, your dosage will be increased until your TSH gets down around 5 or so. The fact that your TSH is still at 30 means that your dosage is not high enough yet.
I know this is a miserable experience, but it should be one you only have to go through once. In another month or 2, your doctor will find your ideal dosage & then you'll feel like your old self again. Hope this helps.
