  1. Yes but if you are an adequate dose of Synthroid, it should fix it. Perhaps it is pituitary in nature.
  2. Greetings,

Hypothyroidism is a common cause of infertility. Low levels of the hormone elevate prolactin levels and prevent ovulation (release of the egg from the ovary). However, this effect is not permanent. Restoration of thyroid hormone levels to normal by taking adequate doses of synthroid should restore ovulation and fertility.

Thus, if your thyroid levels are now normal under treatment, then the thyroid is not the problem.
  3. Yes, hypothyroidism can greatly contribute to infertility- it is actually one of the first things they test for during an infertility evaluation. Hypothyroidism can cause menstrual disorders, including a shortened time between ovulation and onset of period- thus decreasing the time when fertilization can take place. If you want to become pregnant, you should discuss with your doctor, as unfortunately, your age may be playing a large role in difficulty getting pregnant. Good luck.

  5. Yes, hypothyroidism can have an effect on fertility. If you are taking synthroid it should bring your hormone levels to nomal. The thyroid does affect the ovaries.
