Thyroid Problem?
Replying to the answer that l got about my earlier question, my mum has what they call Hashimoto disease (if thats how you spell it) it's a major thyroid problem, my sister also has it but a minor case. I have had blood tests to see if l have a thyroid problem and they keep coming back negative, should l be seeing a better doctor?

- Incase you didn't read my last question, l have a swallon gland on the rhs of my neck (throat) and a lump that is protruding out inside the back of my throat, l am very tired and moody and just want to know what it is. my mum and sister both had blood tests to see if they had thyroid problems but both of them came up negative, it wasn't until my mum kept on telling the doctor thst there was something wrong that they sent her and my sister to a place where they inject dye into you and see if it stops at the thyroid gland. This is the only way it was detected for my mum and sister, l have been told what can happen to you if you do not get help for it but l can't get any help if they can't find out if l've got it or not!!! very worried!!!
- Hi - I have Hashi's myself, with all the wonderful stuff that comes with it. If you are being tested by your regular doc, you might want to see an endocrinologist.. There are new guidelines for treating subclinical hypothyroid. Used to be they only treated if TSH was over 5.0, now most good docs follow the new guideline of treating anything over 3.0 or even treating if the symptoms are just there. I had the radioactive dye test and it came back negative, but my TSH kept going up. I finally talked my doc into letting me see an endo and she set me up with synthroid right away. We're still tweaking the dosage but I feel better.
When it comes to a general body issue, a regular doc is ok.. but when you are messing with specific issues, especially things like immune disorders like hashi's, it's best IMHO to see a specialist. There are too many things to know about it for a GP to know it all. Here's a great site if you haven't seen it already...

- The answer is: maybe.
Do you have symptoms of a thyroid problem? If not, don't worry. Yet. Unfortunately, you may develop a problem later in fife. There isn't anything you can do about it.
If you have symptoms, but your doctor says you don't have a problem, then you need to see another doctor. Especially if the first doctor only ran a TSH test. Anyone who makes a diagnosis based on TSH alone is incompetent.
- No, it's okie you don't have to see a better doctor. Because I have a minor thyroid too. But surprisingly both my parents and brother don't have it. Only my Aunt(mom's sis) has it. So you might not have thyroid. Checking of thyroid don't need a better doctor I guess cause it all depends in your blood. =)
