Can BLOODTESTS B WRONG? I was so sure I had hypothyroidism?

I thought I had HYPOTHYROIDISM , because when I was researching the symptoms online, 80-90% of the symptoms I have! (even my friend agreed)...

  1. There's more than one reason for irregular periods.... Your general health, your genetics, your weight, % of body fat.... The chances of a blood test being wrong are slim, the doctors just start with the most common problems and narrow down the possibilities from there. Have you tried going on the pill? That can help regulate periods too. Talk to your doc. Good luck.
  2. have any of you had a bloodtest that came out 'fine' but later u find out there was something wrong with u?
  3. even my docter said I might have a thyroid problem due to my irregular periods...but after the results of the blood tests , the results says im 'FINE'
  4. I got my period when I was 12 yrs. old, I'm 16 now, and theyre still very irregular (it could be 3, or, 4, or 5 months inbetween)
  5. Lots of women have irregular periods, this does not mean it is your thyroid, if it was your thyroid, you would have a lot of other symptoms. If you are still worried, ask to take another test, use a different lab.
  6. ANY SIMILAR STORIES?
  7. I'd lean towards No.
The test measures the amount of certain hormones and enzymes in the blood which is pretty straight forward.

Do you know how close your numbers came to the borderline values?

It's not uncommon for young women to have irregular periods.
Being heavy or too thin, meds, etc... can also affect things too.
  8. Depends on how the test was done for hyperthyroidism the test would be FTI,T3,T4,TSH Test is called a Thyroid Profile and is done in a red tube or a gold SST>( Serum Seperator) tube.
The way to get (bad)> eroneous results would be if the phlebotomist didn't use alcohale shwab or didn't wipe it off before pinitration or the turniqet was left on for more than the one minute rule or if the process was not done corectly. You could ask them to do it again. But chances are it could be somthing ealse the best advise I know is to keep looking for information on hyperthyroidism cause and effects and eroneouse results. try it wothout the blood result quistion in it see what you come up with.
I hope this helps you a little.
