Does anyone have Hypothyroidism? What are your symtoms?
I have heard that you get super tired when you have hypothyroidism, and I some times feel like I am dead to the world. I am always freezing and I feel like 800 LBS. I don't know I was just wondering if this stuff was linked to my thyroid.

- my sister had it. she was cold, tired, her hair fell out and she could not gain weight. she has had an operation since and takes medication to regulate it.
- BUTTERFLY QUENN said it perfect!! I was diagnosed with Hypothyroid when I was only 10 (I just turned 31). All of your symptoms are good signs that your thyroid isn't working properly. GO TO THE DR!! If it is your thyroid, get on the meds as soon as possible and you will be amazed at how great you feel in a couple of months. I'm saying months, because sometimes it can take a little longer to get your medication to the appropriate dosage. After 21 years of having this, I'm to the point where all I have to do is call the DR and say it's off, up it/lower it, and even my Dr. listens to me more than my blood work! I didn't loose too much hair (no patches missing from my head or anything scary like that), but I did notice I had to clean out the drain after my showers. And sleep, you can never get enough sleep when your thyroid is off!! Listen to your body and recognize what it is saying to you and then journal it so when you go into the Dr you can have everything listed and ready for them to hear. Good luck, and don't worry....it will be O.K.!!

- I have been offically diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I was on several medications at the time, so I thought that all the side effects that I was having were somehow linked to the meds I was taking. NOT the case.
I gained a whole lot of weight (over 40+ pounds) over a period of about 6 months or so. All my life I was skinny, and I could eat anything, and as much of whatever I wanted to, without gaining a pound!!!
I could not withstand ANY cold, when all my life (am now 49) I never ever had this problem. In fact, it was always the opposite; I was always the one that didn't need a jacket when others were freezing; well, suddenly, I could not withstand the teeniest bit of cold !!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with a routine blood test, thank GOD. It explained so much of how I was feeling. And you can look at the lists that other people have copied and pasted here for you of possible symptoms. You simple MUST go to your doctor and tell him/her exactly what you asked us!
They will arrange for a blood test, and depending upon the results of that, they may order other tests, like an ultradound of your thyroid (to rule out some other thyroid disorders).
If indeed you do have hypothyroidism, they will prescribe a hormone that will take the place of your underactive thyroid; you will have to make follow-up appt's quite regularly for awhile, just to make sure they have you on an adequate dose of the hormone.....usually, they'll have to bump up the dose, as they start low at first.
It takes approximately 2 weeks b4 you will start to feel the benefit of the meds, (maybe sooner). My personal experience was wonderful; I lost like 30 pounds over a month's time---that is without exercising! I did lose a ton of hair (luckily have real thick hair).....and I swear it was the medication (and read that it was a side effect), but after 6 months orso, it stopped.
I still have not been to an endocrinologist (specialist for our glands), and my family doctor has done a great job of checking my blood regularly.
Make a long story short, GO TO YOUR DOCTOR ASAP, the sooner you go, the sooner you will get your diagnosis and will be on the way to feeling better !!
I wish you the very best! Also, there are some great articles on www.about.com and there are SEVERAL articles there on various thyroid disorders. Simply go to main site, and search for hypothyroid, and you will get LOTS of info!

They main purpose of the thyroid is to regulate your metabolism. In essence, if you have hypothyroidism, then in the most basic terms, your whole body slows down. Hence, the symptoms I have given you above. Now, there is a relation to hypothyroidism and depression. Both need to be diagnosed by a MD. And both can be treated with medication.
