Hypothyroidism?

I havent felt like myself for a while. My legs feel really weak, almost restless. My periods are abnormal. I have had some weight gain and fatigue. If anyone has or knows someone with hypothyroidism please tell me what symptoms you experience.

  1. Those can be some of the symptoms. I have hypothyroidism. The only thing I didn't have was the leg problems like you're having. Call your doctor. The only way to check thyroid is through bloodtest.
  2. I'm an R.N.
  3. It is NEVER wise to diagnose yourself. For heaven's sake, all it takes to find out if you have hypothyroidism is a blood test. So, instead of playing games and taking "advice" from people on here...most who have NO medical background...see your doctor.

Now, your leg symptoms of weakness have nothing to do with hypothyroidism...leg symptoms in this disorder are aches, cramps and swelling...and they are not common symptoms. The weight gain and fatigue might but they are also symptoms of thousands of other illnesses.

That being said, here are the symptoms of hypothyroidism:
    Coarse and thinning hair.
    Dry skin.
    Brittle nails.
A yellowish tint to the skin.
    Slow body movements.
    Cold skin.
    Inability to tolerate cold.
    Feeling tired, sluggish, or weak.
Memory problems, depression, or difficulty concentrating.
    Constipation.
Heavy or irregular menstrual periods that may last longer than 5 to 7 days.

These symptoms are not as common:
Modest weight gain, often 10 lb or less.
Swelling of the arms, hands, legs, and feet, and facial puffiness, particularly around the eyes.
    Hoarseness.
    Muscle aches and cramps.

Now, do yourself a favor and see a doctor.

Modification: Yes, feeling weak is but you specifically said weak legs...it isn't weak legs...it is general weakness which means weak all over. So glad you saw a doctor. Thyroid also runs in my family so I am well-versed in it. :)
  4. I saw the doc on friday and got a blood test for thyroid function. My mom has thyroid disease. He also said the legs feeling weak is a common symptom.
