What is the hormone that secreted by thyroid glands?

  1. thyroid gland secrete the hormone called thyroxine which is a iodinated hormone.
it contains 65% iodine and the amino acid residue in the thyroxine is tyrosine
  2. Actually there is a massive amount of study and debate in that area at this point. The belief that thyroid primarily controls calcium and iodine levels is mostly prehistoric history.
The conscensus at this point is that the thyroid regulates all hormone levels throughout the body - including testosterone, estrogen, T levels, iodine, etc.
One Doctor I know explains " It works the same as a car's sending unit". It checks the level of hormones and increases or decreases the level of hormones throughout the body.

  6. The thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are tyrosine-based hormones produced by the thyroid gland. An important component in the synthesis is iodine. The major form of thyroid hormone in the blood is thyroxine (T4). This is converted to the active T3 within cells by deiodinases. These are further processed by decarboxylation and deiodination to produce iodothyronamine (T1a) and thyronamine (T0a).
