Synthroid or Levoxyl?
Is there a difference if I take the generic for Hypothyroid?

- Both medicines are the same, if you have any questions you should probably talk to your doctor. The nausea could be from the medicine, but I'm not a doctor and again I would suggest speaking to your doctor.
- THEY CAN BE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE SYNTHROID. I TAKE 0.88 MCG DAILY AND I DO GET THAT WAY OFTEN. ALSO CHEST PAINS. LET YOUR DOCTOR KNOW , MAYBE YOUR DOSE NEEDS ADJUSTING.
- I have been taking Synthroid for 30 years. During that time, I have been to about 10 different doctors. All of them have insisted, that it is better to take the brand name and not the generic for that particular medication. My other prescription medications are generic, but I always stick to Synthroid.
You shouldn't be having those particular side affects, unless you need to adjust the amount you take. Talk to your doctor. If your dose is too strong, it can be dangerous.
- I just recently had my doctor tell me that once you start taking one specific medication for Hypothyroidism that you need to continue taking the exact medication. She told me that any change at all (even generics) can cause your levels to change.
- The generic does not work for some people.
For instance, my dad is allergic to the generic, and we have the order put in that he can not have generic.
Sometimes you could be over medicated if you are on too much synthroid you could get headaches and nausea.
- Synthroid & levoxyl are the same thing.
I'm not sure about the headaches, nausea & dizziness.

- Also, I have had frequent headaches and nausea lately...w/ some dizziness...is this from the thyroid issue?
- It can be from the meds. If you take other meds at the same time, then take your thyroid meds at bed time.
And there is no difference between the Generic or the actual brand.
Been there done that!
