What happens if you are on too high of a dose of synthroid?
I am post partum hypothyroid, I had my baby 2 months ago and my DR finally started me on synthroid 3 days ago. She started me on 125MCG, I have never been on this high of a dose in the past. Always before they would start me on a low dose and then raise it as needed. Im worried that this is too high of a dose.

- If the dose you are on is indeed to high for you, you will begin to experience symptoms of being hypErthyroid...increased heart rate, shakiness, etc...check out http://thyroid.about.com for more information about thyroid disease.
- My Mother-in-law who had her thyroid removed has never even been on a dose this high so I think it is odd that they put me on such a high dose to start. Ive talked to my DR but she says it is fine, but she is a military DR and I dont trust them that much.
- You need to get a different doctor. I have hypothyroidism and I am only on 88mg and just had a baby4 months ago and was on it the hole time I was pregnant. If in fact that it is to high u will notice that u have lots of energy shakiness faster heart beat etc. get a new doctor.
- Did you do the iodine uptake test before your doctor prescribed you the 125 of synthroid?
After mine uptake test I was on a 112 dose, which is pretty high too but it was definitely what I needed, so may the results of your test led your doctor to feel that this was the appropriate dosage for you.
Get a second opinion, though...can't hurt!
