I have been taking Synthroid for 2 months, I got my lab results and my T4 is high. What does this mean.?
My TSH is normal and T3 is normal. Does this mean I need more or less synthroid?

- I've had ultrasounds and Thyroid uptake scans, shows that I have a hypoechoic nodule and goiter
- I think you have subclinical hyperthyroidism. read about it!.. I assume that your TSH is normal. I don't know why your GP order T3 T4, RT3, etc. should be monitoring TSH only!!! as far as amour thyroid, don't even go there! difficult to monitor level. Most Endocrinologists will not prescribe you amour thyroid!PERIOD....
- It means you need to talk to your GP doctor or an endocrinologist.
If your T4 is high, your TSH should NOT be normal, as the TSH is supposed to lower when T3 or T4 goes high...the brain should be sending a message to the thyroid gland to stop making so much T4, but it is not, it thinks the level is just right.
also, get a Reverse T3 blood test done to see how much T3 your body can actually use, out of what is either made by the thyroid, or available for use floating about in the blood stream from your Rx. How do you feel? do you have hyperthyroid symptoms?
Synthroid is a synthetic, maybe you would be better off on Armour thryroid which is natural, made from animal glands and more easily used by the body?
- See an Endocrinologist for your thyroid. You should see the Endo until your medicine is properly adjusted at the right level for 6-12 months and not your GP doctor.
- When you received your lab results, you should have asked your Dr. to explain what and why the T4 was high.
Make another appointment and go and see about it.
