Does anyone know if synthroid meds or hypothyroidism affects sexual desire?

I have been on synthroid 25mg and ever since I have been on it I have had a low sexual desire. I also started it after I gave birth to my first child. I got pregnant after he was 6 mos and now my children are 3 and 2 . I am not sure if the fact that I am a mom and work full time is a factor for lack of sex or the synthroid. Sorry for the bluntness; but I have a really hard time getting "wet" and it hurts like hell. Now it is a little better but I am using KY and atleast enjoying sex more. Thank god my husband is understanding!!!!!!!

  1. USUALLY hypothyroidism decrease sexual desire. check to make sure your TSH and T4 are at their right levels. remember it takes 4-5 weeks to notice a change once you change the synthroid dose. my bet would the the stress of the two little ones! having a understanding husband definately helps!! personally, me and my fiance use ID glide and its nice. also, spend plenty of time on foreplay and the romancing part! don't be focused on you or him orgasming, but focus on the process and being with one another. sex stores are loaded with fun toys too! go explore! make sure grandma sits the kids on at least one night a week. make that night your own! and it will get easier when they get older and are more self sufficent. best wishes and you can always email me later! im is the same on yahoo!
  2. it doesn't have anything to do with your sex drive .I have been taking a lot higher dosage than that. It doesn't affect you unless you shouldn't be taking it.(.25 is a tiny dosage). I take 200 mg. This is one of the higher dosages.
  3. No, quite the opposite. Synthroid will fix lack of sexual desire caused by hypothyroidism. It sounds like you have plenty of other reasons for lack of sexual desire.

  5. You can go to webmd.com and it will give you more info than your doctor. 25mg is a heavy dosage for sure.
