Are there any natural non-prescription alternatives to taking thyroid medication after a full thyroidectomy?

If yes what are they? If no is there anything that I can take along with prescription medicine that will be beneficial?

  1. NO Just follow your doctors instructions!
  2. Sorry there isn't any other medication. If you don't like your current medication and what something more natural try Armour thyroid. I've been on lab made meds and Armour I by far the best so far. Almost every hypothroid symptom is gone

As far as supplements, you can add selenium, zinc, and l-tyrosine to help with the conversion of T4 into T3, but you still need to take your thyroid med.
  3. After a total thyroidectomy you will need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of your life. The medication is to replace the hormones your thyroid normally produces.
There is a natural prescription you can take, Armour, which is dessicated pig thyroid. Whether this better than synthetic hormones is up for debate.
Most people take synthetic hormones after surgery, and blood tests are used to regulate the dosage.

I think the most important thing is to find a caring doctor who listens to how you feel, and does not just go by blood tests.

I had a thyroidectomy 3+ years ago after cancer. You may go though symptoms of being hypothyroid while they adjust your medication, and also if the medication levels are too high, you can suffer from hyperthyroidism. Both conditions may lead to fatigue among other things.
