3. if you have a overactrive thyroid you may need to have a operation or take pills if its under it will be treated with levothyroxine or thyroxine you will take pills for the rest of your life it can take months even years to get the dose right
4. Surgery is only possibly necessary if you have cancer.
   
   Don't let anyone talk you into surgery or radiation if you do not have cancer. All other thyroid problems can be treated with simple medication.
