Thyroid question?

the doc told me that my thyroid hormone is a little higher than norm. free T3 was 3.83Pg/dl which is about 0.3 above the higher end of the norm. free T4 was 1.62 which is just 0.02 above the higher end of the norm. my TSH level was normal and it was 2.75UIU/ml. I am wondering what could cause slightly higher free T3 level and TSH still staying in the normal range. I have symptoms that could be associated with high thyroid hormone. My heart beat feel so fast after a little excersise and shortness of breath appear at the same time with fast heart beat. its hard to sleep sometimes when the symptom appears. This is very bothering me and I wonder if anyone have some idea what should I do to cure these and what could be the cause. Because my heart beat sometimes is very uncomfortable and it makes me anxicious. I really would like to be fine like before.

  1. consult a cardiologist at the earliest, this might help
  2. sounds like you have hyperthyroidism
I have hypothyroidism which is too low of hormone I used to take Synthroid or armour thyroid. I however have the rapid heartbeat and can't sleep or sleep too much and have anxieties also. I now take Zoloft and it works wonders.(for anxieties)
your doctor should have prescribed a medicine for you
  3. Are you taking any medications? Did they do any tests to determine if you had a tumor or antibodies attacking your thyroid causing it to produce more T3. TSH levels are the primary determining factor of whether or not you have hyper or hypothyroid. Since your TSH is normal it might indicate an organic problem with the thyroid itself. I would talk to your doctor about doing more tests to rule out any organic problems.
  4. Didn't the doctor recommend a medicine?

My wife has the opposite problem, low thyroid hormone, but she takes a pill for it.
  5. This is a bit strange, usually in sub clinical hyperthyroidism,TSH shoulb be low.anyhow fast heart during excercise is normal as well as shortness of breath.many factors are to be considered for treatment like your age, complete clinical exam etc.
you may not require any therapy if TSH is normal, just keeping a close watch
  6. One can have hyperthyroidism (in certain circumstances) with a normal TSH. You should see an endocrinologist.
  7. Your doc should give you 2 drugs : one to stop hormonal production and the other one to supply you the right rate of hormone.
Don't worry after few months of treatment, you will feel better and all your unconfortable symptoms will disappear.
