Is one of the side effects of Levoxyl, fatigue?
I started taking 25mg of Levoxyl for under-active thyroid. I've been really out of it all day. Is this typical? How long did it take your body to get used to taking it?

- It's probably not the Levoxyl making you tired by your low thyroid. It may be a sign that your doctor needs to increase your Levoxyl.
It can take a long time to get your medicine regulated. Once you have the right dose, you will probably be fine and just need to get it checked once a year (unless you are pregnant and then it will need to be monitored closley). Always taking your medicine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach will really help. For a long time I took it with breakfast, but now it is the first thing I do in the morning -- even before I brush my teeth! -- and that really helps a lot.
I lost weight when I first started taking thyroid medication, but I still struggle with my weight. In the future, if you start gaining weight, you may need to have your blood levels checked again. I can also tell when my medicine is too low because my skin gets dry and itchy and my hair starts falling out. If you take too much your heart will be too fast and you will be jitterly and shakey.
Hang in there. It takes a while to get the medicine regulated, but once you do you will feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! Unless you had surgery your thyroid condition probably came on slowly so you don't realize how much the low thyroid affected you. You will not be as tired, you will feel better mentally, and you will not be as sensative to temperature and better be able to control your weight.
Good Luck!!! You're going to feel better
- Ask Ur doctor.
- It's taken me more than a year to get my levoxyl dosage right. Right now, I'm at 75mg per day and I've lost about 45lbs, although they insist that levoxyl will not cause weight loss. My experience has been that the side effects can be all over the place, fatigue and insomnia, hair loss and regrowth, energy boosts and periods of super low energy. Unfortunately it can take several months (at least, I'm going on 18 months) to adjust to your new medicine.
On a side note, some bottles say to take the medicine on an empty stomach and some do not. I have read that certain vitamins and substances, such as iron, can decrease the absorption of levoxyl, so check it out and be sure to take the medicine at the same time of day and avoid those substances that interfere with its effectiveness.
- Also, how much weight did you lose? :) Looking forward to that part! (I'm also trying to do it the right way by cutting out junk good & exercise, as usual).
- It shouldnt make you tired but everyone one is diffrent try getting to bed early or allow yourself a nap.You need it.Your body is taking your energy to rebalance itself I would guess.I lost 38 pounds! Take care I hope this helps you.
