I have hashimotos thyroid disease and take synthroid. Anyone take T3 as well?

My doctor refuses to prescribe Armour or other T3 even though I asked. I've read it really helps with energy and weight loss. Anyone out there ever tried T3 medication to supplement your synthroid?

  2. Your doctor should be listening to you. If you don't feel right, tell the doctor. I switched doctors a year ago, was prescribed Armour and Synthroid(previously it was only Synthroid), and now she had added Cytomel(T3). Find a doctor who will listen to you. For a list of good doctors who will prescribe Armour......
  3. Everybody reacts different to medication. You should find another dr. and get a second opinion. Maybe you can have a trail period and see how well you do with the T3

Many years ago my dr. treated my Hypothyroid with T3 and T4. I felt better and it did help keep my weight from going up, but it was hard to keep my thyroid under control. I had to keep testing every 4 months and the dosage changed every time.
  4. I've heard that too. I have hypothyroidism (Graves Disease after surgery) and have heard good things about mixing the two, but I have been doing great on SYnthroid alone for years, so...I guess I can't help you much there.... ;)
  5. omg! my mom has that! lol
  6. I recently switched from synthroid to a T3/T4 combo. I switched from a regular MD and now only go to a naturopath. I have to go to a special 'natural medicine' pharmacy to get it. My doctor told me that synthroid has historically had such a hard time regulating the exact amt for each tablet that it almost got taken off the market.
The improvements I've noticed the most are increased metabolism, more energy and improved regularity.
