Hypothyroidism

Pregnancy, Hypothyroidism, Birthmarks?I had my little boy back in Nov of 06. I was diagnosed with thyroid problems in June of 2005. I battled them throughout my pregnancy. I had no problems, other than the thyroid and gestational diabetes. He came out 9 lb and 3 oz. With apgar scores of 9 and 9. I was very relieved, after reading all that junk on the internet, about what can all go wrong. Well, he was born with strok bites on his face and back of his neck. No big deal, he is otherwise healthy. Besides, they fade with time. The only one you can see now, is the one on his neck. Well, when I got him out of the bath tonite, I noticed on his butt and the back of his leg, little spots. Only 2. I looked them up, and sure enough they are Cafe au lait birthmarks. Does anybody have any experience with these? Should I let his peditrician know? Could they possibly have been caused by my being hypothyroidism while being pregnant? PLease let me know.

The level came back at 0.56, and he said it was normal. I am so confused....because from everything I have read, doctors can't agree on what's low or high. All I know is that my symptoms have gradually gotten worse over time, and I would really like to figure this out. Any information from anyone, I would be thankful for.

Is a TSH test to determine if you are hypothyroid necessary if you had T4 and T-uptake tests?I was told by my 6 year old daughter's pediatrician that she was not hypothyroid after she ran tests. I called the nurse at the doctor's office a few minutes ago and she said that she thought it was odd that she did not have her TSH level tested. She did however test T4 level and did a T-uptake. Her T4 was 6 (normal is 5.5-11.0) and her T-uptake was .95 (normal .74-1.4). I'm not a doctor so I'm not certain but I have had doubts about the ability of our pediatrician. (the pediatrician that we had moved 5 states away and we recently started going to this new doctor.) I asked the nurse if the T4 and T-uptake tests were sufficient ways of diagnosing hypothyroidism. She replied... Not to my knowledge. Then she said she wasn't allowed to give her opinion and couldn't discuss it further. She was very kind and so I'm wondering if anyone else knows the answer to my question. Thank you for your help.

Does anyone have any information about hypothyroidism?I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism as a child, but grew out of it during my teenage years. Unfortunately, I grew out of it just enough to not be medicated anymore, but my hormone levels are still below normal. This is all the information I have from approximately ten years ago. How might I know if I should be retested? Furthermore, might this have any affect on my voice, as I am a professional singer? I am concerned about the reoccurance of the condition due to some of the typical symptoms (fatigue, unexplainable weight gain, etc....). Thank you so much!

Hypothyroidism?is there a way to cure hypothyroidism naturally, without drugs? Self cure?

What supplements/treatments do you recommend for hypothyroidism?I have been experiencing hair loss, excessive sweating, severe depression, severe intolerance of hot climates/surroundings, frequent nausea, and stomach pains since I was seventeen. The year before, I starved myself for a month in order to lose some weight. I have a very prevelent family history of thyroid disorder. I think, perhaps I triggered this with the shock to my metabolism that my anorexia caused. I have been eating regularly since I was 19, but the symptoms persist. What should I do? I am tired of being uncomfortable all of the time, and having thinning hair in parts because of my body's problem...I'm only 19! My libido is one eighth of what it used to be, and my cognitive abilities aren't what they once were...I did a bit of research and saw that all of my symptoms lined up with hypothyroidism, and I wish to know where to look or what to eat, or what I can do to change my body back...

If, anyone has any info. about their own journey & what has helped, I would greatly appreciate it. I know, there are some natural alternative but I haven't tried any. thanks

Hypothyroidism-How long did you have symptoms before gaining weight?I had the Flu last Novemember and have had chronic fatigue since. I have had two blood tests that point to Hypothyrodism. I haven't started on meds for it yet because I have also developed serious allergies/allergy-related asthma and I am trying to get that under control first (also started after the flu and thought the chest pain was fatigue related and only after 9mos of complaining, my doctor finally got a clue). I have not had any weight gain so far but I've been told that it happens if the problems with the thyroid go undiagnoised long enough. My only concern about this is because a few of the women in my family have been over weight and it has been such a struggle for them for so many years. I am already struggling with debiltating fatigue and allergies I'm not sure I want to add trying to loose weight to the mix either. What has your experience with hypothyroidism and wieght gain/trying to loose the weight been? Any advice?

Is hypothyroidism a possibility?I don't have my doctor's appointment til June 4th, but I want to know if my symptoms fit in with hypothyroidism or if it would be a stretch. I definitely have a suspicion that I have a metabolic problem -- I've been gaining weight at a scary rate (15 pounds just in the last month), even though I'm not pregnant, I exercise, and I don't eat that much. I'm in a brain fog most of the time, I'm always tired and can sleep up to 14 hours in a day on occasion, and the skin on my hands gets painfully dry. I often have somewhat of a headache, too. I know something's wrong, but does hypothyroidism fit the bill?

No big deal, he is otherwise healthy. Besides, they fade with time. The only one you can see now, is the one on his neck. Well, when I got him out of the bath tonite, I noticed on his butt and the back of his leg, little spots. Only 2. I looked them up, and sure enough they are Cafe au lait birthmarks. Does anybody have any experience with these? Should I let his peditrician know? Could they possibly have been caused by my being hypothyroidism while being pregnant? PLease let me know.

Hypothyroid symptoms despite lowered TSH.?Hi! I was diagnosed with hypothyroid in August 2006 with a TSH of 161. My TSH has since gone down (currently 1.9) but I still feel gross. And I am experiencing a new symptom - sore joints. Does anyone know if this is related to the medicine I'm taking (synthroid). My Dad is on Armor and he says he feels better. Any ideas?

Hypothyroid test question.?After dose adjustment, what is the TSH difference between retest after 2 weeks and 4 or 6 weeks? Will the TSH tend to be lower when retesting after 2 weeks than 4 or 6 weeks? Is the TSH level valid for indicating thyroid function when tested after 2 weeks of dose adjustment?

Hypothyroid antithyroglobulin abnormal.?My 14yr old daughter had her blood work done and the her antithyroglobulin is high. Normal range is 0-40 and her is at 541. The doctor didn't say anything other than she has a hypothyroid. She is taking 50mcg of Synthyroid once a day. I'm confused because the dr. mentioned Grave's Disease. I thought that was more along with a hyperthyroid. Should I be worried about the antithyroglobulin being high?
