Could chernoblyl have affedted my daughters thyroid?as I have posted earlier my daughter aged 21 is currently awaiting ultrasound scan and fna biopsy on a calcified nodule which has grown from 8mm to aprox 2 cms{palpated by consultant} at the time of the chernobyl disaster she was 8 months old and we lived in an area of britain badly affected by the fallout and spent her early years playing on the beaches and in fields.does anyone know of any statistical evidence that points to a link, I know there are clusters of lukeamias in the area but havn't heard anything about thyroid cancer.I know that the fact that her age. a single calcified nodule which is growing does put her in a higher risk group.I would appreciate any infomation that anyone has.Thank you in anticipation

I have a question about my Thyroid.?I've been going to a Dr. about my thyroid for a few years now. I have a large nodule on one side and the other side is slightly larger than it's supposed to be. He's done the dye test to check for cancer and has done several biopseys. Both come back fine. My concern is this: He's done three ultrasounds the first two came back pretty much the same, the last one showed that the size has increased slightly but the shape has changed a lot on the one side. He said he's going to do anther biopsey and ultrasound in six months. Do I need to go to another Dr? Why would he keep doing biopseys every six months?

My OB/GYN has diagnosed me for thyroid disorders and I am pregnant?does anyone know if this is dangerous to have thyroid antibodies during pregnancy? Is this High Risk?

Possibility of Cancer or what?I was adviced to get a sonogram of my thryoid done. My doctor told me the results today and I guess I kinda blanked-out when he said to check if its benign or not.

What is the growth rate of a thyoid nodule?I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule about a year ago. Since that time I have had several tests including a biopsy which came out fine. The thyroid nodule measured at 1.3 cm in Sept. 2005 when the first ultrasound was performed. I had a follow up ultrasound done today that measured it at 2.6 cm. I am taking synthroid for a underactive thyroid which should also be suppressing the growth of the nodule as well. I was just wondering if the growth rate is common or not?

Is my Doctor putting my Thyroid condition off?I have hypothyroidism with flare ups of Hashimotos disease(swelling of glands extremly tired difficulty swallowing colds and flu like symptoms) My Dr. is telling me to come off my birthcontrol pills because of the hormones and have my tubes tied, then return in 4 months to discuss the removal of my thyroid, He is a specialists and is the second one I have seen, the first one did nothing, I have had nodules biopsied and the results came back inconclusive, I am scared he didn't want to do any more needle biopsys because only 1 in 100,000 people have thyroid cancer and I wouldn't be one of them he said. I have had this condition since I was 14 and I am 35 now I also have hudreds of tiny tiny nodules around the thyroid. Should things be moving a little quicker then this?

Does anyone know of any online resources for failure to thrive or growth disorder in infants? My son has been under the 3rd percentile for his weight since he was about 4 months old. He's now 15 months. I'm working with his pediatrician to try to find out the reason for this. He's on dietary supplements even (a soy "pediasure" due to diarreah/vomiting with milk products. He was breastfed as a young infant so we didn't know about the milk allergy until after he was one). He's been tested for cystic fibrosis and some other things with his thyroid. Those were negative but it did show that he had some sort of anemia. I'm looking for some scholastic resources that I can pass along to his doctor in the hopes that we can get him into a normal weight range. Thank you in advance for your help.

Which dr specialist should my mom visit? cardiolog? internist? other specialist?Hello friends everywhere,

When is it time to surgically remove the thyroid gland due to multinodular thyroid disease?I have had multinodular thyroid disease for many years. My thyroid gland works perfectly, but I have been monitored by various endocrinologists for years. I take Synthroid to get the nodules in check. However, in January, my tests (an ultrasound and a nuclear medicine scan) showed I now had 6 large fluid filled cold nodules. The Dr assured me they are benign. My Dr. increased my thyroid dosage for 6 months to see if there would be any improvement. I just had another ultrasound prior to my doctor's appt next week & now I have 30-40 nodules. I have some difficulty swallowing, especially at night if I lay on my back, and my neck sometimes hurts. I am I know that the medical people are reluctant to remove a thyroid gland that works, but I am beginning to feel that maybe it is time for the surgery. I am 54 and in good health otherwise. Has anyone else had this situation? Do you think I should discuss this with the endocrinologist and maybe get a 2nd opinion?

THYROID test results *** need help understanding?I recently went in for a physical and due to an enlarged thyroid my doc suggested a thyroid ultrascan and a TSH blood test. The scan found some nodules in my thyroid and the blood test found my TSH levels to be high. (some websites say that it can be up to 5 and still be normal, but my test results said 0.34-2.50 UIU/mL were normal range) My result was 2.53. He explained that having a high TSH level means that my thyroid is producing the hormones but the nodules were more than likely blocking them from being released and that was the explanation for the high result (that's how I understood it at least) I do have an appointment this week to take a little pill and 24 hours later go in for another scan of the thyroid and to determine what needs to be done with the nodules. But here's my question...

Can thyroid nodules cause leg muscle cramps and knee pain? For the last six months or so I have been experiencing horrible leg cramps and knee pain. Some days are much worse than the others. Has anyone else experienced this?

A question about thyroid nodule?During an ultrasound of my thyroid a small pea-sized "thyroid nodule" was found, but blood tests showed my thyroid is functioning fine. The doctor did not tell me whether it appears to be a 'hot' or 'cold' nodule -- though I read ultrasound can tell that. Anyways I am being sent to the specialist, probably for the needle thing. Can anyone who knows about this give me any insight? My age is 22.

Has anyone has a pituitary mass removed and then had thyroid problems after?I had a large pituitary mass removed in early May. I am still staying tired and I cannot hear good and my eyesight is blurry, but my main concern is, the Dr. found a pretty large nodule in my thyroid. I have been hoarse and my neck has been very sore, almost like I have been sleeping on it wrong, except my pain does not go away. Also, I have not been snacking or eating unhealthy but I have gained 15 lbs in a month and a half. I had an ultrasound of my thyroid earlier today and they were suposed to take blood but after 9 tries by 3 people, they could not get a vein to produce...Please help me. I am so stressed

What is the name of a blood disorder that starts with a T?My best friend's mother in law just had a mini-stroke last night. They just found out that she has some blood disorder that starts with a T, noone seems to remember what the name was and I wanted to do some more research on it. Basically it has something to do with her white blood cells and because of it, she has to have at least 2 blood transfusions and with her thyroid disease and heart murmur, they give her a 10% maximum chance of surviving after they do the transfusions and put a stint in her heart. Anyways, I just need to know the name of a blood disorder that starts with a T so I can do some research on it for my friend so she and her husband can know a little more about what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hyperthyroid or Severe Depression/Personality disorder?I was being checked out for hyperthyriodism once my first blood test ran. I have a TSH of 0.3%. And losing wieght rapidly, and other sever symptoms. I then had a ultrasound in which they found a 7mm large complex nodule in my right lobe...followed by a 6mm lesion, a 3 mm cyst, and multiple 3-8mm size complex nodules found throughout my thyroid..Now I have a nuculer scan too, but they found no hot or cold nodules. When I saw a endocrinologists he said he didnt think I had hyperthyroidism at all, and my thyroid is normal, and that I had a personality disorder and severe depression. He also said that my symptoms are real, but they are classic text book symptoms of depression(not really, cuz I looked it up). But doesnt hyperthyroidism cause depression or anxiety? Im confused about all this because I have had 3 radiologists and a family doctor tell me thier impression was hyperthyroidism and this endo has prescribed me a psyciatryst. Any doctors out there have a second opinion?

Determining conception dates?Okay, I tried for 10 years to have a baby. I have thyroid disorder, and a couple of uterine complications, as it turns out. I ended up pregnant very much by surprise...I am estimated to be 14 weeks on Wednesday. Here is where I am confused though....It is said by doctor that baby was conceived in August...Here is the basic facts about August for me....I only had sex on two days in August, on Aug 4th and Aug 21. I had a strange, early period on Aug 9 that only lasted for 3 days. (Normal for me is 7 days). I have been told possibly conceived baby on the 4th not the 21st, as would be more likely. How does this work? How is this possible? What would be the chances baby was conceived prior to the early period? And what is the accuracy that the doctor could possibly know for sure? Have had two ultrasounds, and they still question it...Any way to know for certain?

How do you overcome your thyroid disorders? What kind of doctor do you have to see and what are best ways to treat it?

Going back to my thyroid question in better detail.?I am on levothyroxine 75 mcg. I've been on it for a year. I still have only lost 15 pounds of the 90 I gained in that year and he just keeps telling me to keep dieting and exercising. He meaning my doctor. They found 2 nodules on my thyroid but said they were too small to do anything about.

I recently found out that I may have a thyroid disorder. Has anyone lost weight after medication?Over the last 8 or 9 months I have been gaining a little more weight than I ever have before. At about the same time my cycle got a little messed up too. I went to see my doctor and my thyroid screening came back abnormal. I have read that having thyroid problems can slow down and almost shut off a body's metabolism, so I'm thinking this would explaim my recent weight problems and inability to lost the weight. I was wondering if anyone who has a thyroid problem but is on medication has had similar weight issues and after the medication was able to lose the weight? how quickly did your body's metabolism bounce back after medication?

Possibility of Cancer or what?I was adviced to get a sonogram of my thryoid done. My doctor told me the results today and I guess I kinda blanked-out when he said to check if its benign or not.

Is it anxiety or is there really something wrong?I have been having heart palpitations for about 9 months now. I have a thyroid disorder, and my medication has been adjusted. I have worn a 24 hr holter moniter and had an echocardiogram. The results came back as having a fast heart rate. That's it. But I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. My heart starts to beat fast when I am watching tv, after I get out of bed...at times when I don't think I am having a panic attack, but how do I know? Are there foods that can trigger palpitations? I have cut back on caffeinated beverages and try to eat healthy. What should I do?

Thyroid disorder or depression ?When weather is around 12 (C) degree

Can someone explain this?I've been having these symptoms and am thinking either a thyroid disorder or anemia. What else could it be? I'm a 17 year old girl if that helps. I know I should just go to the doctor, but my mom wont get me an appt. unless I can find a feasible reason as to why I should go.

Do I have REMBD?I am 31, I wake up at night hitting my fionce, biting him, screaming obsenities, and other wierd stuff, always with a vivid dream in tow in the back of my mind.

How to help someone with thyriod and anxiety disorder? My father is suffering from thyroid and anxiety disorder. To make things worse, he is partially blinded. My family is trying our best to help him - giving him the support and attention, talking and listening to him, but it seems like it is not working at all. He has this gambling habit as he want to pay the family's debts (but we could not afford the money for him to gamble so sometimes he would borrow from others to gamble). He is also very isolated because he is adopted and his foster parents always emotionally abused him so he had been struggling to survive since young. This caused him to accumulate all the hatred and thus, small issues that we talk to him now will make him extremely agitated and angry. Now that we are poor, a lot of relatives avoided my family and especially my father. We tried a few counselors but all are unsuccessful in treating him. We also try to find some part time jobs for him but he did not want to work. I am really lost and hope someone will help me out.

Do you know anyone who took Radioactive Iodine for Thyroid Cancer and had to stay away from all other humans? My ex-wife had her Thyroid removed and they found cancerous nodules on it. As a result, she has to take Radioactive Iodine in order to kill off any thyroid tissue that may be left. While on the treatment, she may not go within five feet of anyone who still has their thyroids, otherwise theirs could also be destroyed. I've never heard of this. Is any familiar with this?

What do you do for restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. Also have Fibromyalgia.?I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 11 years ago. Prior to that I was diagnosed with Hashmotos hypothyroidism, an auto-immune disease attacking the thyroid. 3 years ago, when trying to DC a med for Fibromyalgia, I learned that I had developed Essential Tremors. Now I've moved on to Restless Leg and Periodic Limb movement disorder. I'm dealing with the central nervous system here, and wonder if I don't have Chronic Lyme, although all tests have been negative. I grew up in the woods of a lyme infested area of PA. I'm dealing with it all, but the lack of sleep associated with Fibromyalgia and the waking from periodic limb movement disorder and minor Sleep Apnea are reaking havoc with my life. Anybody out there dealing with the same mess? I'm all ears.

Thanks!

I have recently had my left lobe of my thyroid removed does this create any ongoing problems?I recently had surgery for a total throidectomy but during the surgery my surgeon only decided to remove the left lobe as the nodules on the right side (that were seen on the ultrasound) were not isible in surgery. Does anyone know if there are any problems caused by just removing one lobe and what is the likely hood that the right lobe will need to be removed in the future?

Thyroid disorders.?Is there anyone who has experienced symptoms of "Hyperthyroid" but their Dr. could not diagnose the problem through TSH tests? I have had a pounding heart rate, with palpitations I can hardly stand it !! he gave me proprnalol, it stopped the fast heart beats but I still get very bad palpitations. Should I persist on getting more thyroid tests done for these symptons?
