Has anyone ever heard of a thyroid condition termed "Wilson's Syndrome"?I was discussing symptoms my mother was experiencing and someone mentioned this disorder. It differs from one known as Wilson's Disease and is less frequently diagnosed. Some of the symptoms included extreme fatigue, trouble swallowing off and on, depression, and more I don't remember. Her Dr. has screened her extensively and is at a loss. She is not a hypochondriac. I have not been able to find anything at all on this.

Which dr specialist should my mom visit? cardiolog? internist? other specialist?Hello friends everywhere,

What are the health consequences of taking high doses of iodine when one has a thyroid cold nodule in the neckKelp is a seaweed that naturally contains high amounts of iodine. I have been taking 1 capsule a day of supplement made from Kelp that provides 400 mcrograms fo iodine- which is 267% of daily recommended value.

THYROID test results *** need help understanding?I recently went in for a physical and due to an enlarged thyroid my doc suggested a thyroid ultrascan and a TSH blood test. The scan found some nodules in my thyroid and the blood test found my TSH levels to be high. (some websites say that it can be up to 5 and still be normal, but my test results said 0.34-2.50 UIU/mL were normal range) My result was 2.53. He explained that having a high TSH level means that my thyroid is producing the hormones but the nodules were more than likely blocking them from being released and that was the explanation for the high result (that's how I understood it at least) I do have an appointment this week to take a little pill and 24 hours later go in for another scan of the thyroid and to determine what needs to be done with the nodules. But here's my question...

I went to the doctor today......?She told me that my thyroid level was very low.....What does this mean? Does this mean that my thyroid is underactive or overactive.....hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidsm ? I just don't understand. She said she felt a nodule on one side of my throat. I have to have a thyroid ultrasound. What does all this mean?

Does anyone else have health anxieties that are controlling their life?I take medication for depression but what I really have is serious health anxieties. I'm 36 years old and feel like a sitting duck. Everytime I feel a lump or bump I start getting really nervous and think for sure it is cancer. Several months ago my doctor found 3 thyroid nodules and I had one biopsied and it was negative but during that time I already convinced myself I had thyroid cancer and I couldn't eat and I cried all the time. I'm suppose to go back to the doctor for another sonogram of my neck to see if they have grown and I won't go because I'm deathly afraid of doctors. Now I have been getting hot flashes so I've convinced myself it must be lymphoma. By the way my thyroid blood work is fine. Am I just one sick puppy or what? Please no mean comments.

Thyroidectomy?I am 39 year old female from Texas. I was told I had a hyperactive thyroid in June of 2006. in Dec of 2006 I noticed a lump in my throat. I went back to my pcp who sent me to an ENT, who sent me to an Endocrinolist. He is send me for another uptake scan. If I have Graves Diesase of a cold nodule he is recommending a Thyroidectomy. My fears are losing my voice or changing. How often do these side effects occur? And please tell me if there WILL be massive wieght gain? my average wieght is 130 at 5'6", currently weighing 118.

Diabetes and Your Thyroid? We all know that diabetes and thyroid disorders are both endocrine diseases and frequently autoimmune. Is it common for type 1s to also develop thyroid problems? I saw my endo yesterday and while everything was just fine (office blood sugar was 114 and I use a pump), my doctor took notice of my enlarged thyroid (something I never noticed). I have recently had my left lobe of my thyroid removed does this create any ongoing problems?I recently had surgery for a total throidectomy but during the surgery my surgeon only decided to remove the left lobe as the nodules on the right side (that were seen on the ultrasound) were not isible in surgery. Does anyone know if there are any problems caused by just removing one lobe and what is the likely hood that the right lobe will need to be removed in the future?

I feel warm or hot most of the time?So this is not hot flashes, right? Somtimes I stay feeling very warm or hot most of the day when others are either comfortable or cold. No fever and I don't feel sick. I do take effexor xr for depression and seroquel to help me sleep and Orthotricyclen birth control pills. I'm 37 so I'm not going thru menopause. I do have nodules on my thyroid gland but my doctor says my thyroid gland is functioning okay when blood work was done. Could I just be warm natured? I'm about 25 pounds overweight also.

How to help someone with thyriod and anxiety disorder? My father is suffering from thyroid and anxiety disorder. To make things worse, he is partially blinded. My family is trying our best to help him - giving him the support and attention, talking and listening to him, but it seems like it is not working at all. He has this gambling habit as he want to pay the family's debts (but we could not afford the money for him to gamble so sometimes he would borrow from others to gamble). He is also very isolated because he is adopted and his foster parents always emotionally abused him so he had been struggling to survive since young. This caused him to accumulate all the hatred and thus, small issues that we talk to him now will make him extremely agitated and angry. Now that we are poor, a lot of relatives avoided my family and especially my father. We tried a few counselors but all are unsuccessful in treating him. We also try to find some part time jobs for him but he did not want to work. I am really lost and hope someone will help me out.

Can my remaining thyroid be stimulated to work without medicine after half has been surgically removed?Half of my thyroid was taken out to remove a benign nodule which had made me hyperthyroid. It has been six weeks since the surgery. My TSH level is now at 9 (hypothyroid) and I'm supposed to start taking Synthroid. I was hoping the remaining half of my thyroid would start to work so that I could avoid taking medication. Has anyone had luck with this? What steps did you take?

Determining conception dates?Okay, I tried for 10 years to have a baby. I have thyroid disorder, and a couple of uterine complications, as it turns out. I ended up pregnant very much by surprise...I am estimated to be 14 weeks on Wednesday. Here is where I am confused though....It is said by doctor that baby was conceived in August...Here is the basic facts about August for me....I only had sex on two days in August, on Aug 4th and Aug 21. I had a strange, early period on Aug 9 that only lasted for 3 days. (Normal for me is 7 days). I have been told possibly conceived baby on the 4th not the 21st, as would be more likely. How does this work? How is this possible? What would be the chances baby was conceived prior to the early period? And what is the accuracy that the doctor could possibly know for sure? Have had two ultrasounds, and they still question it...Any way to know for certain?

What are some reasons why I might be gaining weight even though I go to the gym?I don't want wise cracks or one liners. A question about thyroid nodule?During an ultrasound of my thyroid a small pea-sized "thyroid nodule" was found, but blood tests showed my thyroid is functioning fine. The doctor did not tell me whether it appears to be a 'hot' or 'cold' nodule -- though I read ultrasound can tell that. Anyways I am being sent to the specialist, probably for the needle thing. Can anyone who knows about this give me any insight? My age is 22.

I recently found out that I may have a thyroid disorder. Has anyone lost weight after medication?Over the last 8 or 9 months I have been gaining a little more weight than I ever have before. At about the same time my cycle got a little messed up too. I went to see my doctor and my thyroid screening came back abnormal. I have read that having thyroid problems can slow down and almost shut off a body's metabolism, so I'm thinking this would explaim my recent weight problems and inability to lost the weight. I was wondering if anyone who has a thyroid problem but is on medication has had similar weight issues and after the medication was able to lose the weight? how quickly did your body's metabolism bounce back after medication?

What could cause me to be late?Okay, I have an IUD and normally I'll skip a month but it's never been more than 2 months that I go without my period. I've taken numerous pregnancy tests so I know that's not it. I've had multiple symptoms for hypo thyroid disorder so I'm wondering if that could cause a period not to come. I have an appointment next week with my doctor to find out the cause but I'm looking for information ahead of time. I'm 4 months late now. Could it be stress or s hypothyroid disorder? Thank you in advance.

What is a thyroid cancer or Papillary Carcinoma with microfollicular pattern?I was diagnose with Papillary Carcinoma, on my smaller nodule and Nodular Hyperplasia, larger nodule what does that mean?

What do you do for restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. Also have Fibromyalgia.?I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 11 years ago. Prior to that I was diagnosed with Hashmotos hypothyroidism, an auto-immune disease attacking the thyroid. 3 years ago, when trying to DC a med for Fibromyalgia, I learned that I had developed Essential Tremors. Now I've moved on to Restless Leg and Periodic Limb movement disorder. I'm dealing with the central nervous system here, and wonder if I don't have Chronic Lyme, although all tests have been negative. I grew up in the woods of a lyme infested area of PA. I'm dealing with it all, but the lack of sleep associated with Fibromyalgia and the waking from periodic limb movement disorder and minor Sleep Apnea are reaking havoc with my life. Anybody out there dealing with the same mess? I'm all ears.

Can someone explain this?I've been having these symptoms and am thinking either a thyroid disorder or anemia. What else could it be? I'm a 17 year old girl if that helps. Does anyone know of any online resources for failure to thrive or growth disorder in infants? My son has been under the 3rd percentile for his weight since he was about 4 months old. He's now 15 months. I'm working with his pediatrician to try to find out the reason for this. He's on dietary supplements even (a soy "pediasure" due to diarreah/vomiting with milk products. He was breastfed as a young infant so we didn't know about the milk allergy until after he was one). He's been tested for cystic fibrosis and some other things with his thyroid. Those were negative but it did show that he had some sort of anemia. I'm looking for some scholastic resources that I can pass along to his doctor in the hopes that we can get him into a normal weight range. Thank you in advance for your help.

When is it time to surgically remove the thyroid gland due to multinodular thyroid disease?I have had multinodular thyroid disease for many years. My thyroid gland works perfectly, but I have been monitored by various endocrinologists for years. I take Synthroid to get the nodules in check. However, in January, my tests (an ultrasound and a nuclear medicine scan) showed I now had 6 large fluid filled cold nodules. The Dr assured me they are benign. My Dr. increased my thyroid dosage for 6 months to see if there would be any improvement. I just had another ultrasound prior to my doctor's appt next week & now I have 30-40 nodules. I have some difficulty swallowing, especially at night if I lay on my back, and my neck sometimes hurts. I am I know that the medical people are reluctant to remove a thyroid gland that works, but I am beginning to feel that maybe it is time for the surgery. I am 54 and in good health otherwise. Has anyone else had this situation? Do you think I should discuss this with the endocrinologist and maybe get a 2nd opinion?

Bipolar Disorder? General doc. made new diagnosis without telling me?I have bipolar disorder. I sometimes hear voices when I'm manic or depressed. I haven't been manic or depressed lately, pretty stable. Two weeks ago, I had a visual hallucination. I saw maggots all over my living/kitchen and they were eating my dead cat-She's alive in real life-I called my doc and left a message with his nurse. I had to reschedule an appt. w/ a new psych. b/c they had no info on me after I waited a mth. and a half to see him, they lost info on me. I went to my gen. doc. to tell him what happened. He put me on 80mg of Geodon and 200mg of Lamictal, that's all I'm taking along w/ thyroid horm. He said what happened to me was an "episode". On the med. form that u give to the receptionist, "acute psychosis" and the presc. had "for BAD/Schizo Affective Disorder". Who knows what this means? Did he change my diagnosis w/out telling me? This episode scared my husband. I was screaming at him to kill the maggots. He didn't know what to do. Call 911 if this happens again?Advice?

My surgery was successful but 1 week and 2 days after surgery, I hemorraged out of my nose and mouth and lost 3 pints of blood. It has been 8 weeks and I am feeling somewhat better. I am still staying tired and I cannot hear good and my eyesight is blurry, but my main concern is, the Dr. found a pretty large nodule in my thyroid. I have been hoarse and my neck has been very sore, almost like I have been sleeping on it wrong, except my pain does not go away. Also, I have not been snacking or eating unhealthy but I have gained 15 lbs in a month and a half. I had an ultrasound of my thyroid earlier today and they were suposed to take blood but after 9 tries by 3 people, they could not get a vein to produce...Please help me. I am so stressed

Thyroid disorders?Hi Does anyone out there have a Thyroid disorder and have problems with Depression and Anxiety also. What has worked for you?

Problems gaining weight?Sorry but this is more of an answer. I read a post about someone having problems gaining weight, and one of the replies was 'be lucky you have that kind of a body". I just wanted to say that I also struggle to gain weight, and it's an embarrassing thing, being thin and having people look at you like you have an eating disorder. I have done a lot of research on this issue and talked to my physician, and found that the best way to gain weight is to simply increase your calorie intake by about 500 calories per day, and do weight training to build muscle. It's actually very unhealthy to be underweight, just as it to be overweight. It can cause serious health problems. So if anyone has this problem, maybe talk to your doctor first it could be a thyroid problem. Just thought I'd comment, sorry that it's not a question.

I have a question about my Thyroid.?I've been going to a Dr. about my thyroid for a few years now. I have a large nodule on one side and the other side is slightly larger than it's supposed to be. He's done the dye test to check for cancer and has done several biopseys. Both come back fine. My concern is this: He's done three ultrasounds the first two came back pretty much the same, the last one showed that the size has increased slightly but the shape has changed a lot on the one side. He said he's going to do anther biopsey and ultrasound in six months. Do I need to go to another Dr? Why would he keep doing biopseys every six months?

Recently a nodule of 8 mm has been found on my left breast, it is also painful...,.I had a scan, any advice? Some of the 'experts' have said to leave it alone, but others have said it should be investigated, a similiar size one was seen on my right breast on the IRM. It's painful enough to wake me up at night. I also have nodules at the moment on my thyroid which have to be removed.

Thyroid Cancer - okay to wait?My primary care found a suspsicous nodule on my thyroid. I am 36 years old. He referred me to a local endicrinoligist who is right out of school. She wants me to have a FNA Biopsy. However, the facility is a local facility. I want to go into Boston, to the major teaching hospital. I called and got an appointment but it is not for another month and a half. Is it okay to wait that long? The endocrinoligist said it was okay to wait since Thyroid Cancer is slow growing. Is she right? I am so scared....

Has anyone had this before ?I am guessing I am about 1 1/2 months pregnant. My thyroid disorder always makes me about 1 1/2 to 2 months late, so this is a big guess. I have a lot of pressure down below and I just feel like I have to urinate all of the time. I am thinking that it is a bladder infection. I have an obgyn appt. on Thursday. I am really worried . Since it is Sunday, I do not have anyone to call and ask. Has anyone had this before , only being about 1 1/2 months pregnant ? How serious is a bladder infection while you are pregnant ? Should I make an appt. for tommorow, or will I be okay until Thursday ? I know its long. Thanks everyone.

How is life for athletes without their thyroid gland and on replacement thyroxine? My doctor recommends that I have my thyroid gland removed because of a benign but large cold nodule.

Has anyone has a pituitary mass removed and then had thyroid problems after?I had a large pituitary mass removed in early May.
