Does anyone else have health anxieties that are controlling their life?I take medication for depression but what I really have is serious health anxieties. I'm 36 years old and feel like a sitting duck. Everytime I feel a lump or bump I start getting really nervous and think for sure it is cancer. Several months ago my doctor found 3 thyroid nodules and I had one biopsied and it was negative but during that time I already convinced myself I had thyroid cancer and I couldn't eat and I cried all the time. I'm suppose to go back to the doctor for another sonogram of my neck to see if they have grown and I won't go because I'm deathly afraid of doctors. Now I have been getting hot flashes so I've convinced myself it must be lymphoma. By the way my thyroid blood work is fine. Am I just one sick puppy or what? Please no mean comments.

What do I do?I have stayed in touch with a friend of mine since junior high.We were always close but over the years we difted apart, hardly have anything in common and the only reason we still talk is because we have known each other for so long.I haven't seen her in over a year since her and her husband moved and hour and half away.Recently she has started calling me more and more and wants to make plans to hang out again but more on her terms instead of meeting halfway or coming to my town. She has also found out that she might have thyroid cancer and a degerative muscle disorder. The real reason for the delima is I ran into a guy we use to hang out with who told me he stopped talking to her when he found out about the dogs.He was shocked that I didn't know.As far as what she was doing with the dogs use your imagantion and I am not joking.I always knew she was a freak but never thought she would go that far.Should I confront her or just stop talking to her?

What do you do for restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. Also have Fibromyalgia.?I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 11 years ago. Prior to that I was diagnosed with Hashmotos hypothyroidism, an auto-immune disease attacking the thyroid. 3 years ago, when trying to DC a med for Fibromyalgia, I learned that I had developed Essential Tremors. Now I've moved on to Restless Leg and Periodic Limb movement disorder. I'm dealing with the central nervous system here, and wonder if I don't have Chronic Lyme, although all tests have been negative. I grew up in the woods of a lyme infested area of PA. I'm dealing with it all, but the lack of sleep associated with Fibromyalgia and the waking from periodic limb movement disorder and minor Sleep Apnea are reaking havoc with my life. Anybody out there dealing with the same mess? I'm all ears.

When is it time to surgically remove the thyroid gland due to multinodular thyroid disease?I have had multinodular thyroid disease for many years. My thyroid gland works perfectly, but I have been monitored by various endocrinologists for years. I take Synthroid to get the nodules in check. However, in January, my tests (an ultrasound and a nuclear medicine scan) showed I now had 6 large fluid filled cold nodules. The Dr assured me they are benign. My Dr. increased my thyroid dosage for 6 months to see if there would be any improvement. I just had another ultrasound prior to my doctor's appt next week & now I have 30-40 nodules. I have some difficulty swallowing, especially at night if I lay on my back, and my neck sometimes hurts. I am I know that the medical people are reluctant to remove a thyroid gland that works, but I am beginning to feel that maybe it is time for the surgery. I am 54 and in good health otherwise. Has anyone else had this situation? Do you think I should discuss this with the endocrinologist and maybe get a 2nd opinion?

How to help someone with thyriod and anxiety disorder? My father is suffering from thyroid and anxiety disorder. To make things worse, he is partially blinded. My family is trying our best to help him - giving him the support and attention, talking and listening to him, but it seems like it is not working at all. He has this gambling habit as he want to pay the family's debts (but we could not afford the money for him to gamble so sometimes he would borrow from others to gamble). He is also very isolated because he is adopted and his foster parents always emotionally abused him so he had been struggling to survive since young. This caused him to accumulate all the hatred and thus, small issues that we talk to him now will make him extremely agitated and angry. Now that we are poor, a lot of relatives avoided my family and especially my father. We tried a few counselors but all are unsuccessful in treating him. We also try to find some part time jobs for him but he did not want to work. I am really lost and hope someone will help me out.

Hair texture change?I'm 51 years old and just got off a ton of prescrription drugs and HAD a hyperactive thyroid but in FIVE weeks my hair went from normal, beautiful, medium texture to baby fine, limp hair that is nothing like what my normal hair is/was. What the heck happened to me. How could my whole head of hair change due to anything in 5 weeks? Isn't your hair "dead" after it leaves your head so that it couldn't change my whole head of hair because of getting off drugs or thyroid disorder? I didn't use anything on my hair different and menopause wouldn't change ALL of my hair! I need advise and HELP - will my hair be this kind of hair forever -? I have to wet it down every day because its texture is totally different, how could this happen? Anybody experience this?

Bipolar Disorder? General doc. made new diagnosis without telling me?I have bipolar disorder. I sometimes hear voices when I'm manic or depressed. I haven't been manic or depressed lately, pretty stable. Two weeks ago, I had a visual hallucination. I saw maggots all over my living/kitchen and they were eating my dead cat-She's alive in real life-I called my doc and left a message with his nurse. I had to reschedule an appt. w/ a new psych. b/c they had no info on me after I waited a mth. and a half to see him, they lost info on me. I went to my gen. doc. to tell him what happened. He put me on 80mg of Geodon and 200mg of Lamictal, that's all I'm taking along w/ thyroid horm. He said what happened to me was an "episode". On the med. form that u give to the receptionist, "acute psychosis" and the presc. had "for BAD/Schizo Affective Disorder". Who knows what this means? Did he change my diagnosis w/out telling me? This episode scared my husband. I was screaming at him to kill the maggots. He didn't know what to do. Call 911 if this happens again?Advice?

Has anyone had this before ?I am guessing I am about 1 1/2 months pregnant. My thyroid disorder always makes me about 1 1/2 to 2 months late, so this is a big guess. I have a lot of pressure down below and I just feel like I have to urinate all of the time. I am thinking that it is a bladder infection. I have an obgyn appt. on Thursday. I am really worried . Since it is Sunday, I do not have anyone to call and ask. Has anyone had this before , only being about 1 1/2 months pregnant ? How serious is a bladder infection while you are pregnant ? Should I make an appt. for tommorow, or will I be okay until Thursday ? I know its long. Thanks everyone.

Bad results -Thyroid Cancer - Ultra sound?Okay, First had lump in neck, then felt lump in throat. Had ultrasound. They found a nodule on thyroid a little over 1 cm. THYROID test results *** need help understanding?I recently went in for a physical and due to an enlarged thyroid my doc suggested a thyroid ultrascan and a TSH blood test. The scan found some nodules in my thyroid and the blood test found my TSH levels to be high. (some websites say that it can be up to 5 and still be normal, but my test results said 0.34-2.50 UIU/mL were normal range) My result was 2.53. He explained that having a high TSH level means that my thyroid is producing the hormones but the nodules were more than likely blocking them from being released and that was the explanation for the high result (that's how I understood it at least) I do have an appointment this week to take a little pill and 24 hours later go in for another scan of the thyroid and to determine what needs to be done with the nodules. But here's my question...

Is my Doctor putting my Thyroid condition off?I have hypothyroidism with flare ups of Hashimotos disease(swelling of glands extremly tired difficulty swallowing colds and flu like symptoms) My Dr. is telling me to come off my birthcontrol pills because of the hormones and have my tubes tied, then return in 4 months to discuss the removal of my thyroid, He is a specialists and is the second one I have seen, the first one did nothing, I have had nodules biopsied and the results came back inconclusive, I am scared he didn't want to do any more needle biopsys because only 1 in 100,000 people have thyroid cancer and I wouldn't be one of them he said. I have had this condition since I was 14 and I am 35 now I also have hudreds of tiny tiny nodules around the thyroid. Should things be moving a little quicker then this?

Does anyone know a good diet for someone who has thyroid disease?I'm not on meds anymore. because I have 2 solid nodules(not cancerous) but they have never decreased. but I want to lose weight without making my thyroid act up again?

Does anyone know of any online resources for failure to thrive or growth disorder in infants? My son has been under the 3rd percentile for his weight since he was about 4 months old. He's now 15 months. I'm working with his pediatrician to try to find out the reason for this. He's on dietary supplements even (a soy "pediasure" due to diarreah/vomiting with milk products. He was breastfed as a young infant so we didn't know about the milk allergy until after he was one). He's been tested for cystic fibrosis and some other things with his thyroid. Those were negative but it did show that he had some sort of anemia. I'm looking for some scholastic resources that I can pass along to his doctor in the hopes that we can get him into a normal weight range. Thank you in advance for your help.

I have a thyroid nodule any input?I didn't realize there were such wise cracks around with unhelpful answers

Hyperthyroid or Severe Depression/Personality disorder?I was being checked out for hyperthyriodism once my first blood test ran. I have a TSH of 0.3%. And losing wieght rapidly, and other sever symptoms. I then had a ultrasound in which they found a 7mm large complex nodule in my right lobe...followed by a 6mm lesion, a 3 mm cyst, and multiple 3-8mm size complex nodules found throughout my thyroid..Now I have a nuculer scan too, but they found no hot or cold nodules. When I saw a endocrinologists he said he didnt think I had hyperthyroidism at all, and my thyroid is normal, and that I had a personality disorder and severe depression. He also said that my symptoms are real, but they are classic text book symptoms of depression(not really, cuz I looked it up). But doesnt hyperthyroidism cause depression or anxiety? Im confused about all this because I have had 3 radiologists and a family doctor tell me thier impression was hyperthyroidism and this endo has prescribed me a psyciatryst. Any doctors out there have a second opinion?

Diabetes and Your Thyroid? We all know that diabetes and thyroid disorders are both endocrine diseases and frequently autoimmune. Is it common for type 1s to also develop thyroid problems? He asked me if I had gained some weight and I told him I had gained about 7 pounds in the last 6 weeks and my doctor also saw that my skin was really dry.

Problems gaining weight?Sorry but this is more of an answer. I read a post about someone having problems gaining weight, and one of the replies was 'be lucky you have that kind of a body". I just wanted to say that I also struggle to gain weight, and it's an embarrassing thing, being thin and having people look at you like you have an eating disorder. I have done a lot of research on this issue and talked to my physician, and found that the best way to gain weight is to simply increase your calorie intake by about 500 calories per day, and do weight training to build muscle. It's actually very unhealthy to be underweight, just as it to be overweight. It can cause serious health problems. So if anyone has this problem, maybe talk to your doctor first it could be a thyroid problem. Just thought I'd comment, sorry that it's not a question.

Recently a nodule of 8 mm has been found on my left breast, it is also painful...,.I had a scan, any advice? Some of the 'experts' have said to leave it alone, but others have said it should be investigated, a similiar size one was seen on my right breast on the IRM. She wants me to have a FNA Biopsy. However, the facility is a local facility. I want to go into Boston, to the major teaching hospital. I called and got an appointment but it is not for another month and a half. Is it okay to wait that long? The endocrinoligist said it was okay to wait since Thyroid Cancer is slow growing. Is she right? I am so scared....

Drs never said anything so I assumed things were good, but I have been feeling like crap for awhile so when I asked dr to test my blood for thyroid problems she mentioned I have more than normal amount of nodules on thyroids. Noone told me. Was this not serious enough to worry about? I really do not know.

What are some reasons why I might be gaining weight even though I go to the gym?I don't want wise cracks or one liners. If I eat right and exercise 45 min. a day and varied between cardio and weights, I should lose weight. I know about nutrition, etc. and have been to a dietician. I'm just wondering what are some possible other posibilities for gaining weight unnatually besides a thyroid disorder.

Has anyone ever heard of a thyroid condition termed "Wilson's Syndrome"?I was discussing symptoms my mother was experiencing and someone mentioned this disorder. It differs from one known as Wilson's Disease and is less frequently diagnosed. Some of the symptoms included extreme fatigue, trouble swallowing off and on, depression, and more I don't remember. Her Dr. has screened her extensively and is at a loss. She is not a hypochondriac. I have not been able to find anything at all on this.

What is wrong with me?I have been trying ttc for a few months now and have not been successful. Lately I've been feeling pregnant but all of the hpt's are negative. I even had a blood pregnancy test done and it was negative. About 9 years ago I had been having some thyroid problems but everything was fine up until now. I noticed that I have another lump (nodule) in my neck due to hypothyroidism. Do you guys think that this could be a reason I can't get pregnant. Or could it be that I am pregnant and the thyroid problems are causing the hcg levels to increase slowly? I don't know what it could be, but everyone's opinion is greatly appreciated.

Has anyone has a pituitary mass removed and then had thyroid problems after?I had a large pituitary mass removed in early May. My surgery was successful but 1 week and 2 days after surgery, I hemorraged out of my nose and mouth and lost 3 pints of blood. It has been 8 weeks and I am feeling somewhat better. I am still staying tired and I cannot hear good and my eyesight is blurry, but my main concern is, the Dr. found a pretty large nodule in my thyroid. I have been hoarse and my neck has been very sore, almost like I have been sleeping on it wrong, except my pain does not go away. Also, I have not been snacking or eating unhealthy but I have gained 15 lbs in a month and a half. I had an ultrasound of my thyroid earlier today and they were suposed to take blood but after 9 tries by 3 people, they could not get a vein to produce...Please help me. I am so stressed

I recently found out that I may have a thyroid disorder. Has anyone lost weight after medication?Over the last 8 or 9 months I have been gaining a little more weight than I ever have before. At about the same time my cycle got a little messed up too. I went to see my doctor and my thyroid screening came back abnormal. I have read that having thyroid problems can slow down and almost shut off a body's metabolism, so I'm thinking this would explaim my recent weight problems and inability to lost the weight. I was wondering if anyone who has a thyroid problem but is on medication has had similar weight issues and after the medication was able to lose the weight? how quickly did your body's metabolism bounce back after medication?

High thyroglobulin level?Recently, I had a thyroid biopsy on my thyroid nodule and was lucky enough to find no cancer cells present. However, my thyroglobulin level is very high, 679 ng/mL compared to the normal range of 2.0 - 35 ng/mL. I know that other conidtions also cause elevated thyroglobulin level. But a level that is almost 20 times higher that normal makes me worry. Could experts on thyroid disease give me some advices? Thank you very much in advance.
