How do you overcome your thyroid disorders? What kind of doctor do you have to see and what are best ways to treat it?

Going back to my thyroid question in better detail.?I am on levothyroxine 75 mcg. I've been on it for a year. They found 2 nodules on my thyroid but said they were too small to do anything about.

I feel warm or hot most of the time?So this is not hot flashes, right? Somtimes I stay feeling very warm or hot most of the day when others are either comfortable or cold. No fever and I don't feel sick. I do take effexor xr for depression and seroquel to help me sleep and Orthotricyclen birth control pills. I'm 37 so I'm not going thru menopause. I do have nodules on my thyroid gland but my doctor says my thyroid gland is functioning okay when blood work was done. Could I just be warm natured? I'm about 25 pounds overweight also.

What is the long term effect of having a hormonal imbalance?I have been diagnosed to have a hormonal imbalance because I'm experiencing heavy periods. I had a nodule removed from my thyroid before and have regular blood tests for my thyroid but it's usually normal. My doctor advised me to take contraceptive pills but I've tried a number of brands but they mostly cause me headaches so I chose to stop taking it, that is, choosing heavy periods over headache.I just want to know the long term effect if I'll let it be.

Due to have thyroid operation soon.?I've been told that if not, I will eventually get litterally strangled by a swollen nodule. First time in hospital. Scared witless. Anyone been through same? What type of anesthetic is used? Info, please.

What is wrong with me?I have been trying ttc for a few months now and have not been successful. Lately I've been feeling pregnant but all of the hpt's are negative. I even had a blood pregnancy test done and it was negative. About 9 years ago I had been having some thyroid problems but everything was fine up until now. I noticed that I have another lump (nodule) in my neck due to hypothyroidism. Do you guys think that this could be a reason I can't get pregnant. Or could it be that I am pregnant and the thyroid problems are causing the hcg levels to increase slowly? I don't know what it could be, but everyone's opinion is greatly appreciated.

Revised: What are some reasons why I might be gaining weight even though I go to the gym?Okay, I don't know how to revise, so I just wanted to say that my clothes got tighter, so I don't think it was just the muscle.. What now? I don't want wise cracks or one liners. If I eat right and exercise 45 min. a day and varied between cardio and weights, I should lose weight. I know about nutrition, etc. and have been to a dietician. I'm just wondering what are some possible other posibilities for gaining weight unnatually besides a thyroid disorder.

Possibility of Cancer or what?I was adviced to get a sonogram of my thryoid done. My doctor told me the results today and I guess I kinda blanked-out when he said to check if its benign or not.

How is life for athletes without their thyroid gland and on replacement thyroxine? My doctor recommends that I have my thyroid gland removed because of a benign but large cold nodule. I am physically very active and I am worried that the replacement thyroxine will make me tired and that it may have other side effects too. Anyone out there who has undergone through thyroid surgery before?

Since it is Sunday, I do not have anyone to call and ask. Has anyone had this before , only being about 1 1/2 months pregnant ? How serious is a bladder infection while you are pregnant ? Should I make an appt. for tommorow, or will I be okay until Thursday ? I know its long. Thanks everyone.

THYROID test results *** need help understanding?I recently went in for a physical and due to an enlarged thyroid my doc suggested a thyroid ultrascan and a TSH blood test. The scan found some nodules in my thyroid and the blood test found my TSH levels to be high. (some websites say that it can be up to 5 and still be normal, but my test results said 0.34-2.50 UIU/mL were normal range) My result was 2.53. He explained that having a high TSH level means that my thyroid is producing the hormones but the nodules were more than likely blocking them from being released and that was the explanation for the high result (that's how I understood it at least) I do have an appointment this week to take a little pill and 24 hours later go in for another scan of the thyroid and to determine what needs to be done with the nodules. But here's my question...

As a result, she has to take Radioactive Iodine in order to kill off any thyroid tissue that may be left. I have worn a 24 hr holter moniter and had an echocardiogram. The results came back as having a fast heart rate. That's it. But I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong. What is the name of a blood disorder that starts with a T?My best friend's mother in law just had a mini-stroke last night. They just found out that she has some blood disorder that starts with a T, noone seems to remember what the name was and I wanted to do some more research on it. Basically it has something to do with her white blood cells and because of it, she has to have at least 2 blood transfusions and with her thyroid disease and heart murmur, they give her a 10% maximum chance of surviving after they do the transfusions and put a stint in her heart. Anyways, I just need to know the name of a blood disorder that starts with a T so I can do some research on it for my friend so she and her husband can know a little more about what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How long should a newborn sleep all day and for how many hours? My son will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. He only wakes up three times a night, but he sleeps all day long. Waking every four hours to eat and sometimes I have to wake him to eat. I only ask because I have a thyroid disorder and wonder if I may have passed it down. So is it normal for a newborn to sleep all the time? When he is awake he stays awake 1 to 2 1/2 hours.

I'm suffering a3x3x2cm Thyroid Nudule over lower pole of right lobe & 1cm nodule on left, do I need operation?I had this problem since May 2005, at that time the sonography of bilateral thyroid glands was: multinodular goiter over both glands, maximal 2.2x1.19cm but now growing bigger, but it doesn't affect me from swallowing too much - I don't have symptons of hand-shaking nor difficulty in breathing or whatsoever. Although 'operation' is under consideration, but once I'm operated, I need to take thyroid medicine for the rest of my life. My problem is my thyroid glands are OK, only the Nodules. How can I remove the nodules without taking an operation? Thanks for your answer.

Does anyone know of any online resources for failure to thrive or growth disorder in infants? My son has been under the 3rd percentile for his weight since he was about 4 months old. He's now 15 months. I'm working with his pediatrician to try to find out the reason for this. He's on dietary supplements even (a soy "pediasure" due to diarreah/vomiting with milk products. He was breastfed as a young infant so we didn't know about the milk allergy until after he was one). He's been tested for cystic fibrosis and some other things with his thyroid. Those were negative but it did show that he had some sort of anemia. I'm looking for some scholastic resources that I can pass along to his doctor in the hopes that we can get him into a normal weight range. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thyroid disorder? My TSH report has come out showing my count to be 6.29. Is it very worst? Does it means that my thyroid gland can never be normal? can I lead a normal life? presently I am undergoing stress can this be a reason to this? I am 28 yrs female is FYI. Please help me.

Determining conception dates?Okay, I tried for 10 years to have a baby. I have thyroid disorder, and a couple of uterine complications, as it turns out. I ended up pregnant very much by surprise...I am estimated to be 14 weeks on Wednesday. Here is where I am confused though....It is said by doctor that baby was conceived in August...Here is the basic facts about August for me....I only had sex on two days in August, on Aug 4th and Aug 21. I had a strange, early period on Aug 9 that only lasted for 3 days. (Normal for me is 7 days). I have been told possibly conceived baby on the 4th not the 21st, as would be more likely. How does this work? How is this possible? What would be the chances baby was conceived prior to the early period? And what is the accuracy that the doctor could possibly know for sure? Have had two ultrasounds, and they still question it...Any way to know for certain?

Should I be freaked out over the possibility of thyroid cancer?I was diagnosed with a nodule on my thyroid and have to go in for a biopsy. How concerned should I be?

Does anyone else have health anxieties that are controlling their life?I take medication for depression but what I really have is serious health anxieties. I'm 36 years old and feel like a sitting duck. Everytime I feel a lump or bump I start getting really nervous and think for sure it is cancer. Several months ago my doctor found 3 thyroid nodules and I had one biopsied and it was negative but during that time I already convinced myself I had thyroid cancer and I couldn't eat and I cried all the time. I'm suppose to go back to the doctor for another sonogram of my neck to see if they have grown and I won't go because I'm deathly afraid of doctors. Now I have been getting hot flashes so I've convinced myself it must be lymphoma. By the way my thyroid blood work is fine. Am I just one sick puppy or what? Please no mean comments.

Is pain under the ear is associated with thyroid nodules?jaw area is the pain located

A question about thyroid nodule?During an ultrasound of my thyroid a small pea-sized "thyroid nodule" was found, but blood tests showed my thyroid is functioning fine. The doctor did not tell me whether it appears to be a 'hot' or 'cold' nodule -- though I read ultrasound can tell that. Anyways I am being sent to the specialist, probably for the needle thing. Can anyone who knows about this give me any insight? My age is 22.

Drs never said anything so I assumed things were good, but I have been feeling like crap for awhile so when I asked dr to test my blood for thyroid problems she mentioned I have more than normal amount of nodules on thyroids. Noone told me. Was this not serious enough to worry about? I really do not know.

I have a question about my Thyroid.?I've been going to a Dr. about my thyroid for a few years now. I have a large nodule on one side and the other side is slightly larger than it's supposed to be. He's done the dye test to check for cancer and has done several biopseys. Both come back fine. My concern is this: He's done three ultrasounds the first two came back pretty much the same, the last one showed that the size has increased slightly but the shape has changed a lot on the one side. He said he's going to do anther biopsey and ultrasound in six months. Do I need to go to another Dr? Why would he keep doing biopseys every six months?

Problems gaining weight?Sorry but this is more of an answer. I read a post about someone having problems gaining weight, and one of the replies was 'be lucky you have that kind of a body". I just wanted to say that I also struggle to gain weight, and it's an embarrassing thing, being thin and having people look at you like you have an eating disorder. I have done a lot of research on this issue and talked to my physician, and found that the best way to gain weight is to simply increase your calorie intake by about 500 calories per day, and do weight training to build muscle. It's actually very unhealthy to be underweight, just as it to be overweight. It can cause serious health problems. So if anyone has this problem, maybe talk to your doctor first it could be a thyroid problem. Just thought I'd comment, sorry that it's not a question.

I roll it into a ball as a size of a golf ball. I wash my hair every other day and hate to too because I freak out. At first my doctor said it could be my hormones, and then when my blood work came back everything was normal, when she checked my thyroid on my 6 week check up, that was fine. What else could it be? Currently I went to GNC and bought some Biotin shampoo and conditioner and some vitamins and it's still not working. My doctor still has me on prenatal as well. The only thing that has changed is I have been diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder....which my hair loss causes even more stress. I don't know what to do, if you have any suggestions, please help me out. I need some encouragement or some other answers.

Severe Menstrual Pain is killing me.. HELP?Hi,

Hair texture change?I'm 51 years old and just got off a ton of prescrription drugs and HAD a hyperactive thyroid but in FIVE weeks my hair went from normal, beautiful, medium texture to baby fine, limp hair that is nothing like what my normal hair is/was. What the heck happened to me. How could my whole head of hair change due to anything in 5 weeks? Isn't your hair "dead" after it leaves your head so that it couldn't change my whole head of hair because of getting off drugs or thyroid disorder? I didn't use anything on my hair different and menopause wouldn't change ALL of my hair! I need advise and HELP - will my hair be this kind of hair forever -? I have to wet it down every day because its texture is totally different, how could this happen? Anybody experience this?

What is a thyroid cancer or Papillary Carcinoma with microfollicular pattern?I was diagnose with Papillary Carcinoma, on my smaller nodule and Nodular Hyperplasia, larger nodule what does that mean?

Do you know anyone who took Radioactive Iodine for Thyroid Cancer and had to stay away from all other humans? My ex-wife had her Thyroid removed and they found cancerous nodules on it. As a result, she has to take Radioactive Iodine in order to kill off any thyroid tissue that may be left. While on the treatment, she may not go within five feet of anyone who still has their thyroids, otherwise theirs could also be destroyed. I've never heard of this. Is any familiar with this?

What's a good and witty comeback...?to say when some low life makes fun of you for being overweight? Please no negative or hurtful comments to me about my weight. I have a thyroid disorder, which makes it really hard to lose weight. Thanks everyone!

Is it a possibility to have Scar tissue pain a year and a half after Thyroid lobectomy?I had the left side of my Thyroid and a very big lump in the front of my neck removed last year, 6/6/06. Now I keep getting lil' sharp pains in my neck. it's hard to tell if the pain is coming from the scar or right below it. I was just wondering if it could be Scar tissue pain. Or maybe I'm getting more nodules again.

Which is more accurate, a thryroid nuclear scan or ultrasound? My doctor ordered a thyroid nuclear scan and it showed a "hot nodule", then the ultrasound found nothing. Where do you think they will go from here? I don't want it ignored if something is actually there!
